It looks like this machine has a single (Nvidia) GPU. And while the
kernel is using driver 'nvidia', Xorg is not. Could you possibly try
uninstalling the Nvidia driver and then reinstalling it via the
'Additional Drivers' app?

Unfortunately no there is no other way right now. If your display server
is frozen then you also lose the ability to switch to other virtual
terminals, because the keyboard handling for that is the job of the
frozen display server.
We should also check this is really a Xorg bug and not a
Interesting thought. If this is the #1 crash then yes it would explain a
lot of blank screen issues.

In comment #50, I said having the proprietary drivers aren't necessary.
I was wrong, but I thought it was true because I had the problem on an

I just learned from an episode of the Ubuntu Podcast that since Ubuntu

Reviewing bug 1868519, it certainly matches the situation. Mouse
movement is the trigger for the crash. For gimp it's moving the mouse
after opening or creating an image. For Libreoffice it's beginning to
use the crop tool, which is also a mouse movement.

Oh, it seems you have some non-standard extensions installed too, like
gsconnect. Please UNINSTALL ALL non-Ubuntu extensions before proceeding
any further. We need to do this because so many bugs are caused by
extensions.
