That potential fix I mentioned is now also queued up in 3.36.5:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/commit/eae21f01dd
So let's assume that's the fix here until proven otherwise.

This sounds similar to bug 1883456... Please:
1. Try opening the 'Extensions' app and disable 'Ubuntu AppIndicators'.
Does that fix it?
2. Run 'top' and tell us if any process is using high CPU.
3. Run the following commands after you have experienced the issue:
journalctl -b0 > journal.txt
It sounds like you're referring to a dock button. So that we can find
out more about the system please run:
gsettings list-recursively org.gnome.shell > settings.txt
and then attach the resulting text file.
Please also attach a screenshot of the issue/button/menu if you can.
Just press PrtScn
The attached XorgLog.txt shows the mouse is repeatedly:
[ 28256.417] (II) event4 - USB OPTICAL MOUSE: device removed
So this might be a hardware problem or a kernel bug. Try plugging it
into a different port, or try a different mouse.
** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) => xserver-xorg-input-lib
And your kernel log shows similar problems. It might be a problem with
the motherboard, a specific USB port, or with the mouse.
