There are some packages grabbed as a netbook-launcher recommends for the
fallback to the 2D launcher.
User can also now runs directly in lucid the 2D launcher, choosing the session
in GDM.
Please tell me if the 2D fallback works on this case. Putting the bug
report as Incomplete in the
Sorry Giovanni, it would be too dangerous (backporting more than 20
packages) to handle the new session and fallback solution.
You can still take latest daily iso, put it on a usb key and try to boot
on it on the live system to get a first idea.

Right, it seems to be linked to that bug in the intel driver. I'm
reassigning so the issue to xorg-x11-drv-intel package. I'll update next

that just means that failsafe session which was working on karmic and not in

Bryce, yes, it's still the case. The effect is still really random and

We looked with Thomas for a couple of hours this particular issue and
came to the conclusion this one seems to appear only when switching from
traditional Xorg to a Mir environment back and force after having some
GPU load. The radeon driver seems to not

Done, now xdiagnose only triggers if an installed display manager is
configured as default but couldn't start. This should fix your boot
issue.
We won't fail graphical.target anymore if the only available dm was
uninstalled, however, I do recommend you set then your default target to

After upgrading to wily, I started to get regular random Xorg crash (and
so, session restarting and such). This can happen multiple times a day.
I've retried installing the latest intel driver from the xorg-edgers ppa
as Timo recommended, but the crash is still there.
After a bisect, the commit fixing it upstream is
78f7451886f0a33df717c57fc1a079ee7e6f221e. This one seems to depend at
least on some previous commits.
I'm available for any testing! (unplug/plug test should be done at least
30s after logging in into a vanilla session to have reliable results)

Tested with Firefox (about:support) and Chrome (config:cpu). Both are showing

It’s displayed as "Performance mode" when you launch it for the first time,
