the x-team discussed this idea today, and came to the conclusion to
close the bug as wontfix. Building any driver inside the xserver makes
it harder to update them, and it might also break input-hotplug, which
is not needed for embedded devices.

Andy: could you test something simple.. to disable FBC you can give an
option to the kernel 'i915.i915_enable_fbc=0' by editing the kernel
options from the boot menu. So if could test with that when booting the
-25 kernel it would be great.
There is a commit in upstream v3.2 stable queue

'i915.i915_enable_fbc=0' to the parameters to see if it helps with the

ubuntu-desktop depends on unity, which depends on compiz, which depends
on compiz-gnome | compiz-kde. When you remove compiz-gnome, it'll
install coimpiz-kde to satisfy the dependency (something you
conveniently left out). So reinstalling ubuntu-desktop doesn't pull
compiz-gnome since compiz-kde
