I can confirm same bug nVIDIA proprietary drivers, think it was caused
by last xorg common and xorg server updates. However, upgrading to GIMP
2.8 (http://www.noobslab.com/2012/04/install-gimp-28-on-
ubuntu-1204-precise.html) eliminates problem.

In Lucid Lynx (with kms disabled on boot to be able to use an externel
monitor with laptop) enabling a compositing environment (either metacity
OR compiz) causes hard GUI freeze and lock-up. Machine was upgraded
from Karmic Koala and no problems
XORG EDGERS packages (drivers x-swat) do not solve issue. I believe
the issue is kernel xorg related to KMS.

Flicker is there with the ati/radeon driver, but greatly reduced using
the Option DisplayPriority HIGH addition to my xorg.conf
file.

Using the XORG Edgers PPA, I can't get past the login screen...I'm a
old lady. But this Mobility Radeon Chipset (X2300) is not the

Laptop is suspended with no external monitor. Upon connecting a VGA
external monitor and opening lid (resume) laptop resumes and everything
is okay. Attempting to connect bluetooth mouse causes immediate freeze
of GUI and machine. Cannot drop down into low run mode
Update: Has nothing to do with Bluetooth. Has everything to do with
plugging in a VGA cable while machine is suspended and then opening lid
(resuming). Causes freeze. Opening lid first and then connecting VGA
cable does not elicit freeze.

the OS to be removed - basically more than a thousand packages. Never
seen anything like this. Dependencies need to be fixed.
When I install an older kernel, do DKMS modules need to be rebuilt, or
do DKMS modules only need to built for newer kernels?
