Monitor flickers when
seeing this in 16.04 daily xubuntu
didn't get anywhere with the script in the LP bug report, nor trying to
use that AND a udev rule (from xfce forum)

I have just :
Installed trusty 14.04.4 > no cursor issues
Updated and ended up with 14.04.5 > no cursor issues
enabled -proposed and updated > no cursor issues
Only issue I get is if I let upgrade to 16.04.x take place, issue is
then totally expected.
Not sure why you are seeing

Xenial: Mouse pointer disappears after
Finding that the yakkety package updated recently I installed that on
xenial, appears to fix the cursor visiblity issue on suspend and/or
lock.

Suspend machine and restart.
Lock screen requiring password - enter password and return to suspended
desktop.
