[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1971042] [NEW] remap Fn+F3 to gnome-power-statistics instead of no-use OSD ( L322X 22.04 )

2022-04-30 Thread Bib
Public bug reported:

Hi
I migrated my Dell XPS L322X to 22.04
Fn+F3 combo won't trigger gnome-power-statistics anymore the way it did since
the sputnik project up to the last upgrade to Trusty. I can't remap with
keyboard settings custom shortcuts: when I do this the combo keystroke is
detected fine by the GUI that displays "Batterie" (Battery), but the keystroke
still brings up the useless OSD (redundant as we already have the battery/mains
indicator in the top bar) and won't launch the application.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 653714]

2019-12-05 Thread Bib
I reached to retreive my video bios version*:
cat /proc/driver/nvidia/cards/0
Model: GeForce4 4200 Go
IRQ: 11
Video BIOS: 04.28.20.31.c1
Card Type: AGP

Maybe you will like to check against your own and tell me you need
something else from me.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 653714]

2019-12-05 Thread Bib
I ended in Ubuntu 12.04 with latest nvidia-96(-updates maybe). The
Laptop sleeps now for weeks and I won't wake it up. I Just can say that
once I admitted that vino won't work with desktop effects, I decided to
use this laptop with gnome-shell no-effects only, and with the latest
drivers state above the laptop now can be used.

I'm not a coder so I can't help further and I see we are only two who
subscribed this thread. My single company surely won't help you to go
further, emgaron.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1746740] Re: XPS13 L322X Bionic (daily dev) touchpad laggy

2018-04-26 Thread Bib
Oh, ok. I wasn't skilled enough to run all the tests freedesktop asked. I don't
know if a single sample as given there by Sean IIRC is enough accurate for such
a HID that may have its sensitivity range spread around some typical value
supplied by the manufacturer. Then maybe it would be worth converting the
values from xserver-xorg-input-synaptics to libinput as at least in my l322x,
the touchpad was really easy to use.
Whatever, Thanks Ubuntu teams

No, it doesn't : E: unable to find package xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
even after I ran a pass of the updates-manager: e.g there was a kernel update
from 4.13.25 to 4.13.32 but once installed an rebooted, no way to select it,
and sudo update-grub fails with ~can't find /cow~
Remember this is a live-USB. Also, the startup-disk-creator doesn't allow
anymore to create a persistent r/w partition to store files.

I read the touchpad range bug 1586683. This is not the same as my laptop
is Dell XPS13 developper edition (L322X), and at ~best~ I could say the
behaviour is reversed : my TP would have normal sensitivity on
right+bottom, and poor on center. Although this doesn't look like a
sensitivity issue, merely some usb buffer overflow or irq or I don't
know what, as I can move the cursor touching the central part on the
touchpad, the cursor moves OK then still sliding my finger as usual the
cursor stops moving. I have then to wait for a while to recover the
ability to make another move

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1422727] Re: Precise Dell Latitude D800 fails to resume

2015-03-07 Thread Bib
Sorry Cristopher, maybe I mix things that are not related, but when I
wanted to upgrade my x86 12.04 to HWE Stack, I had to tweak something to
prevent the upgrade process to fail because pae feature not exposed by
the CPU. This has nothing to do with x86/x64, but instead to that non-
pae distribution in no more available since a long time.

I can't because I think live cd/usb do not offer the sleep feature, as
well as my CPU not exposing its pae capability prevents booting from a
pae required media.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 948053] Re: nvidia-173 and nvidia-96 uninstallable on Precise

2013-01-18 Thread Bib
@ Johannes Martin
Hi Johannes, I tried your tip, not forgetting to chmod +x
It didn't worked neither for suspend nor hibernate, but at least I can see
briefly on resume/thaw the console login screen.
pm-suspend.log doesn't seem to report any error when the wake-up fails.
When disabling your script (chmod -x), closing X session then issuing
pm-suspend or pm-hibernate from console, both work fine (although no password
is asked at wake-up, I get the console session opened), but switching
Ctrl+Alt+F7 brings back to black screen, reverting to console impossible and
Alt+PrtScn+K ineffective. Sometimes Alt+PrtScn+B reboots the laptop, sometimes
not.
I wouldn't like to pollute more this thread. Should I post a new bug? And for
which package pm/kelnel/xorg/video?
Thank you

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 948053] Re: nvidia-173 and nvidia-96 uninstallable on Precise

2013-01-04 Thread Bib
Ok here, it just works: I had to unlock xorg's previous version from
/etc/apt/preferences (replaced the sticking lines with those advised here
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed to prevent all -proposed auto
updates) and upgrade it to current Precise default release and update all in
Synaptic BEFORE I add precise-proposed to the repos, then in Synaptic force the
listed nvidia-96 96.43.20 to 96.43.23 and update.
Hibernation still brings to black screen on thaw after the 100% pages are shown
reloaded

if you disable Synaptics driver, then you'll probable need to use an external

For those having issues with nouveau, I discovered on a clean
oneiric-precise install (because of unavailable non-pae liveCd), that
my issues with nouveau had disapeard, beautiful screen, clean cursor
etc..., although poor perfs... I don't know how this happened, but after
checking I learnt the driver used is vesa ! I don't know how to use vesa
on my ugly system. A pity precise follows the win7 not supporting these
~old cards (mine V28).

2012-05-23 Thread Bib
Same bug here for my GeForce4 Ti 4200 Go AGP 8x laptop requiring
nvidia-96. I don't care with 3D, I switched to Gnome-Session-Fallback,
but even with no-effects, the nouveau driver just displays rubish on my
screen. They have a 100-14-11 driver at nVidia for legacy video cards.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 970438] Re: Mouse pointer stops responding without known trigger

2012-04-30 Thread Bob Bib
** Description changed:

  Hey everybody
- I have an acer laptop model acer 3810t
+ I have an acer laptop model acer as3810t
The problem I'm experiencing has been present since ubuntu 11.04 up to 12.04
beta2
the thing is that sometimes - out of nowhere (completely random. seems not
related to anything) the trackpad stops responding and requires a reboot
sometimes it stops responding a minute after I login
and sometimes days can pass without me experiencing the problem.
I have no idea what causes it. I haven't seen other similar bug reports.
I believe that it is an ubuntu issue since I'm also an arch linux user. the
problem didn't appear on arch.

  thanks!

  I'll happily send further info.
- ---
+ ---
+ WORKAROUND:
+ 1) switch to the console session (e.g., press Ctrl+Alt+F1 and input
your login  password as prompted);
+ 2) reload the PS/2 kernel module:
+ sudo modprobe -r psmouse sudo modprobe psmouse
+ 3) try to exit the console session and switch to the graphic terminal (e.g.,
press Alt+F7 or Alt+F8 if VT7 is black).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 970438] Re: Mouse pointer stops responding without known trigger

2012-04-13 Thread Bob Bib
mouse pointer (of my Acer's AS3810T Synaptics touchpad) freezes every time I do
the following things:
1) select Switch from user... (in GNOME fallback session, from the session
menu);
2) at the LightDM screen I log in another user (e. g. Guest);
mouse cursor works in that another user session, but after switching back to
the 1st user I discover the frozen pointer;
to unfreeze it, I need to log out from the user session (using keyboard only:
Ctrl+Alt+Del and select Log Out) and log in again (sometimes, but not
every time, suspend resume helps, so I don't need to log out).
---
Do you have any ideas how I can help? Should I look at some logs?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 970438] Re: Mouse pointer stops responding without known trigger

2012-04-09 Thread Bob Bib
In my case, touchpad hangup occurs in Precise more often than in Oneiric, Natty
etc.
Interestingly, it unfreezes after suspend resume.
---
ohad-basan, there has been a suspend/resume workaround for a quite long time:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AspireTimeline/Fixes#Suspend_to_RAM -- just
add a i8042.reset=1 kernel option into /etc/default/grub

I've seen a nautilus related error popup . I was guided here .
