[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2019481] [NEW] Xorg freeze

2023-05-13 Thread Brian Bergin
Public bug reported:

Upon installing the 3rd party nVidia version 390 drivers for the Dell
E6520 laptop, after reboot hangs with a black screen and a blinking
cursor in the upper left hand corner. Booting to a terminal prompt and
using "sudo apt remove *nvidia*" and rebooting solves the issue. This
did NOT happen in 22.04 LTS on this laptop with no other hardware or
BIOS changes. This install of 23.04 was a clean install, the 22.04
install was wiped.

vendor : NVIDIA Corporation
model: GF119M [NVS 4200M]
driver : nvidia-driver-390 - distro non-free recommended
driver : xserver-xorg-video-nouveau - distro free builtin

If I install that driver the system will not boot, removing it solves
the issue. I've wiped and reinstalled 23.04 4x, both with full options
and minimal, the problem always returns.

There are in fact two problems this one where the desktop environment
fails to start and another where the password prompt is not shown in
plymouth as testing this again without the NVidia drivers I failed to

I don't see this happening anymore as of the release of linux-

cause this to happen anymore, so I suspect this can probably be closed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1998950] Re: GPU hang on Alder Lake laptop

2023-01-06 Thread brian m. carlson
Since there appears to be upstream patches in kernel 6.0 and Mesa 22.3.1
which fix this, perhaps it would be possible to backport those to the
versions in Ubuntu 22.10? If not, would it at least be possible to
upload such packages to Lunar so that there's an option which doesn't
involve reinstalling the machine to go back to 22.04?

Right now my machine is freezing multiple times per day and it would be
really valuable to get those backports applied. I'm pretty sure this
affects all Alder Lake-P GPUs on Kinetic, since the upstream bug report
mentions multiple different hardware variants.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1994144] Re: External display monitor not recognized

2022-12-12 Thread Brian Peters
Hi - sorry I gave up and settled for running Xubuntu with VirtualBox in
Windows. But I would still like to get to the bottom of the issue. In
answer to your question, yes, the issue is the same regardless of
whether I log into a Wayland session or xorg.

I also tried upgrading to 22.10 to see if that would solve it, but alas
it did not.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1998950] [NEW] GPU hang on Alder Lake laptop

2022-12-06 Thread brian m. carlson
Public bug reported:

I see frequent (multiple times per day) hangs on my Lenovo ThinkPad X1
Carbon Gen 10. When this occurs, part of the image tears away and X
becomes unusable. Sometimes the cursor continues to move for a short
time after the fact. In order to recover, I must SSH into the machine
and run `sudo killall -9 Xorg`, which drops me back to the lightdm login
screen and then things work again.

I've also seen this on Debian sid on a nearly identical machine, and
there when upgrading to kernel 6.0 and Mesa 22.3, the problem
disappears. However, those are not available in Kinetic.

I've tried both `i915.enable_psr=0` and `i915.enable_dc=0` as boot
parameters and this does not affect anything. The problem has been
occurring since I installed Ubuntu on this machine when I got it on
November 17.

I believe the upstream bug report is this:
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/intel/-/issues/6757.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1998001] Re: Missing tests from libdrm-tests

2022-12-02 Thread Brian Murray
>From what I can tell an old version of the package did provide kms-
universal-planes but the new version does not. In
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/kinetic/universe/cnf/Commands-
amd64.xz we can see:

25486 name: libdrm-tests
25487 version: 2.4.110-1ubuntu1
25488 commands:
amdgpu_stress,drmdevice,kms-steal-crtc,kms-universal-planes,modeprint,modetest,proptest,vbltest

The date of the file is from 2022-06-27 which is well before the Kinetic
release so this could be an issue with the server providing the cnf
data.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1987628] Re: Xwayland fails to start on Xilinx: symbol lookup error: /usr/bin/Xwayland: undefined symbol: gbm_bo_get_fd_for_plane

2022-09-13 Thread Brian Murray
Hello Daniel, or anyone else affected,

Accepted xwayland into jammy-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xwayland/2:22.1.1-1ubuntu0.2 in a
few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
jammy to verification-done-jammy. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-jammy. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1943030] Re: Enable riscv64 build of nvidia-settings

2021-09-16 Thread Brian Murray
Looking at the debian/control file we can see the package is built for
arm64 and ppc64el and that this was deliberately added when Thomas was
involved in Ubuntu development.

nvidia-settings (367.35-0ubuntu1) yakkety; urgency=medium

  * debian/control:
- Build for arm64 and ppc64el, even though we don't provide the
  driver for these architectures yet.
  * debian/patches/12_nostrip.patch,
debian/patches/13_libxnvctrl_so_0.patch:
- Refresh patches.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1782984] Re: Assertion `!xcb_xlib_threads_sequence_lost' failed with multiple applications

2021-08-31 Thread Brian Murray
Hello Stephen, or anyone else affected,

Accepted libx11 into focal-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libx11/2:1.6.9-2ubuntu1.3 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
focal to verification-done-focal. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-focal.

** Changed in: libx11 (Ubuntu Focal)
Status: In Progress => Fix Committed

** Tags added: verification-needed verification-needed-focal
