I found that installing the nvidia-modprobe results in BOINC detecking GPUs

I'm not entirely sure why this works - AFAICT the

deliberately - I would suggest putting:

After the first change and try to run the new driver. If two-finger
scroll still works you know that you are running the old driver.

Hi, it turns out that my DVD drive is malfunctioning. It can write DVDs
(sometimes at least), but can't read them. Using an external drive I
was able to liveboot to today's Trusty build. The issue with sleep mode
is still there.
I couldn't get my wireless working or get Trusty to shut down
Christopher Penalver, I installed xdiagnose, but now apport-collect just
hangs.

Downgraded pixman for the test (so it would actually crash)
Upgraded only xserver-common and xserver-xorg-core
It still crashes Xorg if we don't have the pixman fix..
This is trivially reproducible in a VM (I'm using vagrant/virtualbox).

Thanks for taking the time to report this issue and make Ubuntu better.
To confirm, did you restart your machine after changing /etc/hostname
and /etc/hosts? Generally speaking changing the hostname without a
restart can cause the issues you're describing, because the previous
hostname is cached
This is the file (with confidential data removed) that will crash both
LibreOffice and Xorg.

- Load (currently not public) spreadsheet in LibreOffice.
+ Load spreadsheet (from comment #6) in LibreOffice.
Crashes Xorg (displays top 8 rows).
Reproducible on 12.04 and 13.10 and with Libreoffice 3.5, 4.0.2,and
