[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1370208] [NEW] Black screen after booting
Public bug reported: When I switch on my desktop, I see the booting information on the screen, then the screen turns black. I can hear the opening sound of Ubuntu, but the screen remains black. Only if I switch off my screen and then switch it on again, I can see the login screen of Ubuntu, then everything works fine. This is not a major problem, but somehow annoying. My screen is a Samsung LCD TV set Series A 3-4-5-6-7. It used to work fine with Ubuntu 12.04. I have experienced this problem after upgrading to 14.04. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 958279] Re: FGLRX DPMS support totally broken, fails to wake up the monitor after putting it to sleep.
Hello everybody I'm experiencing this bug too , I'm running Kubuntu 14.04 lts 64bit and using fglrx-updates (Radeon HD 7790) I don't know if this applies to other setups... distros... different window-managers etc ... This is the only scenario in which I could test and have this problem. The steps I've taken to reproduce this behaviour are the following: 1 - Install fglrx-updates drivers 2 - Wait for the display to be switched off by the power-manager 3 - After the screen has fully switched off and entered stand-by mode, trying to move the mouse or hitting any of the keys on your keyboard simply does not wake up the screen. Your display is permanently stuck in sleep mode and you have to reboot your computer. There's just something wrong with the computer telling the screen to wake up because while the display is off, the system is still running I guess as I managed to avoid hard-resetting my computer by using the terminal and issuing a shutdown command (going by memory, since the display is OFF). I haven't tested the workarounds suggested above but I'll keep this post updated as soon as I try. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/958279 Title: FGLRX DPMS support totally broken, fails to wake up the monitor after putting it to sleep. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 958279] Re: FGLRX DPMS support totally broken, fails to wake up the monitor after putting it to sleep.
Referring to my post above... I confused one for another , I actually had to enter a TIMED shutdown command to reboot my system while testing the display switch-on/off because the system was running but not responding my inputs at all after my screen was going off. I also have tested some of the solutions I've read above and found some odd things. -- So , after installing fglrx-updates I had no xorg.conf file by default (which is ok..) ; -- I generated one with sudo amdconfig --initial and set DPMS to false , then rebooted ... this workaround actually worked for me in the sense that it basically prevented the system to send a standby/switch-off signal to the monitor ... instead, it was just blanking and keeping it powered on. (so far so good) -- Then out of curiousity I tried setting the DPMS back to true, after rebooting the system I noticed it was working, the display was correctly entering and exiting the standby mode. Thus, my problem was that I had no xorg.conf file by default. So yay, everything worked fine ... no, not everything actually. -- I don't know why but having an xorg.conf file somehow affects my graphic effects , for example when I'm in the KDE system-settings panel there's a fade-out effect when moving the mouse-pointer from one icon to another ... well that one graphic effect is now broken, the fading effect is glitchy and makes some artifacts when fading ... this does not happen when I have no xorg.conf file. Both ways I have something malfunctioning ... either graphics-ok + screen standby not working or the other way around. I guess I'll be keeping my /etc/X11 without an xorg.conf file and just disable the powermanagement option for display standby -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/958279 Title: FGLRX DPMS support totally broken, fails to wake up the monitor after putting it to sleep. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1135620] [NEW] System boots in text mode and X doesn't start
Public bug reported: At times the system boots in text mode, with the text [OK] (and occasionally some graphics gargabe in an area the size of a few text characters) on the screen, and X doesn't start. Once, I happened to hear the drums sound played by the Unity login screen after boot. I am able to get a shell with Ctrl+Alt+Fn. I experienced the issue with the kernel version recorded by Apport for this bug, as well as earlier versions. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1135620] Re: System boots in text mode and X doesn't start
The attached Apport data was collected in a session activated by rebooting from a session in which the issue occurred. ** Description changed: At times the system boots in text mode, with the text [OK] (and occasionally some graphics gargabe in an area the size of a few text characters) on the screen, and X doesn't start. Once, I happened to hear the drums sound played by the Unity login screen after boot. I am able to get a shell with Ctrl+Alt+Fn. I experienced the issue with the kernel version recorded by Apport for this bug, as well as earlier versions. When it happens, I am able to get a fully working system, with X and Unity running fine, by just rebooting. My PC has an Intel Core i5 CPU 760 @ 2.80GHz × 4 with 8GB of RAM, a 450GB hard disk, and an Nvidia Quadro 400 graphics card. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1006951] Re: caída del programa wine
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 951395] Re: end session doesn't work
Hi Sandra, Thanks for your bug report and for your contribution to Ubuntu. In order to determine if this issue is usplash related, please boot your computer with usplash disabled and then shutdown to see if you can reproduce the issue? To disable usplash for a single boot, follow these steps: 1. Hold Esc during Grub boot delay to access the boot menu. 2. Select your actual Ubuntu boot line and press e to edit it. 3. Select the kernel line and press e to edit it. 4. At the end of the line, remove splash and quiet and press enter. 5. Type b to boot the custom boot line. Please do this on a clean image of Edubuntu (without the new user). Can you also verify the MD5SUM of the .iso image (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM)? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 929711] Re: graphic effect
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 34043] Re: Nvidia binary driver requires Option NvAGP 1 for reliable suspend/resume

By default, resume from both suspend to ram disk failed. Problem solved by: *) removing all quirks from: /usr/share/hal/fdi/information/10freedesktop/20-video-quirk-pm-dell.fdi /usr/lib/pm-utils/video-quirks/20-video-quirk-pm-dell.quirkdb *) adding NvAGP 1 to xorg.conf I've also edited /etc/default/acpi-support; AFAIU in principle this should not matter. Nevertheless, changes are as follows: - SUSPEND_METHODS=dbus-pm dbus-hal pm-utils + SUSPEND_METHODS=dbus-pm pm-utils - ACPI_SLEEP=true + #ACPI_SLEEP=true - ACPI_HIBERNATE=true + #ACPI_HIBERNATE=true - ACPI_SLEEP_MODE=mem + ACPI_SLEEP_MODE=standby - SAVE_VBE_STATE=true + SAVE_VBE_STATE=false - POST_VIDEO=true + POST_VIDEO=false - # DOUBLE_CONSOLE_SWITCH=true + DOUBLE_CONSOLE_SWITCH=true That's all folks!
