[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 717114] Re: [i945gm] Screen Corruption with new Xorg stack with terminal programs

2011-03-17 Thread Stefano Rivera
Also makes a massive difference for me. I haven't seen any corruption.
Tested the usual triggers: gnome-terminal scrolling / curses, notify-osd
on top of video, slashdot.org.

I also can't reproduce Simon's corruption in unity.

Just ran a bisection, and it pinpoints
6bda10d152735c22baf1dcd92937420b4b0a359a

commit 6bda10d152735c22baf1dcd92937420b4b0a359a
Author: Chris Wilson ch...@chris-wilson.co.uk
Date: Sun Dec 5 21:04:18 2010 +

drm/i915: Completely disable fence pipelining.

I'm still seeing tiling corruption of PutImage and CopyArea (I think)
under mutter on pnv, so obviously the pipelining logic is deeply flawed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 717114] Re: [i945gm] Screen Corruption with new Xorg stack with terminal programs

2011-02-18 Thread Stefano Rivera
@Bryce:

Unless Stefano also sees it with web browsers

Just caught one now with Firefox on slashdot (first try).

It looks like you're running compiz.

Indeed. The first time I reported this, I was using Unity, but I'm back
to GNOME with Compiz. Unity drives me nuts (and I feel blind without my
System Monitor panel applet). I'll try without Compiz.

Do you recall more precisely when you started noticing it?

I seem to remember it was very soon after your announcement, but I don't
know why I didn't file it immediately then. Maybe I was waiting for Xorg
to be uploaded too. Sorry, life in development releases means you run
into quite a lot of bugs, and don't file them all immediately (hope
someone else saw them and did the work).

Do you have the 2.6.37 kernel still installed?

Yes, I'll test.

 Has it been appropriately sponsored?
Yes: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/lucid/+queue?queue_state=1

does that mean there's nothing left to do but wait for the queue to be
acted upon?

Yes, waiting for stage 5 of https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SRU

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 589250] Re: Unable to resolve function glX...

2010-07-19 Thread Stefano Rivera
libGL.so is provided by multiple packages: mesa, nvidia, ati. In the
past, it used to use the alternatives system to select the GL library.
The current approach since (and including) lucid is to install a
configuration file in /etc/ld.so.conf.d that instructs the linker to
look in /usr/lib/$PROVIDER. It sounds like these packages have a fixed
library search path.

I don't know if there's an easy workaround besides the provided one.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 594863] [NEW] glx.h moved, causes FTBFS in other packages

2010-06-15 Thread Stefano Rivera
Public bug reported:

The recent upload of 7.8.1-3ubuntu1 to maverick included this change

http://git.debian.org/?p=pkg-
xorg/lib/mesa.git;a=commit;h=74a3b2aba5852cb18c47e5eed9349888cc9481f3

which hasn't been released in any Debian package yet.
This causes glx.h in mesa-common-dev to move from /usr/include/GL/ to
/usr/include/. This causes packages requiring glx.h to FTBFS.

Example: libforms_1.0.93sp1-1.dsc

checking GL/glx.h usability... no
checking GL/glx.h presence... no
checking for GL/glx.h... no

Full build log: http://pastebin.com/rmMMLNks

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 560376] Re: [i945gm] Random X hang

2010-04-12 Thread Stefano Rivera
The debug output with 2.6.32 (Lucid) kernels isn't very reliable anyway.
Could you try the 2.6.34-rc3 mainline kernel and capture dmesg and
i915_error_state with that? If you can also add drm.debug=0x02 as a kernel
parameter, that would make dmesg output more verbose with respect to this
 kind of problems.

Here you go I had to use i915.powersave=0 to get past GDM.

Took about 5 hrs before it crashed, so I haven't included the ~50MiB of
kernel logs generated since bootup.

Can you please run apport-collect 539069 to attach the logs in a format

I'm afraid I'm blocked by bug 336866

But I'll do that as soon as apport is working again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 506444] Re: [i945gm] [lucid] LCD flashes and jumps horizontally quite a lot

2010-01-12 Thread Stefano Rivera
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Excuse the wishy-washy bug report, but I can't find any logs showing
anything out of the ordinary or a way to reliably trigger it.

The LCD flashes-black for a fraction of a second quite often (sometimes
multiple times in a minute). It looks like a driver or hardware is resetting.
Occasionally a section of the screen is noticeably corrupted during this,
before it re-draws.
Sometimes the whole display appears to jump left by something on the order of
10 pixels.
+
+ If this happens while playing a video, the GPU locks up (well screen
+ goes black, VTs are inaccessible, and the machine has to be rebooted to
+ get X to start again).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 495441] [NEW] [lucid] xorg crashes on switch to VT

2009-12-11 Thread Stefano Rivera
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

When I switch to a VT, I instantly see a spinner, gdm displaying the
login screen. My old session is gone. Xorg.0.log.old indicates an X
crash

It should also be noted that every few seconds the (LCD) screen flickers
and the mouse returns to the center of the screen. Looks like some sort
of reset, nothing in the logs though.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 471180] [NEW] [karmic] Can't use high resolutions on CRT

2009-11-02 Thread Stefano Rivera
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

While using 1024x768 on this particular monitor yields a nice refresh
rate of 75Hz, the monitor should be capable of higher resolutions with
lower refresh rates (and if I remember correctly, a higher refresh rate
at 1024x768).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 422072] [NEW] [945GM] Occasional text corruption

2009-08-31 Thread Stefano Rivera
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

I occasionally get a single corrupted word like in the attached
screenshot. Sometimes words are completely missing, sometimes corrupted
like the example. Changing window or performing mouse selection re-
renders the text.

Mostly seen in Firefox and gnome-terminal, but that's where I spend all
my time, anyway.

I've seen this bug since the early days in Karmic, but thought I'd found
an existing report that matched it. No idea which bug that was, but I
can't find it any more...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 421478] [NEW] [945GM] Connecting external VGA monitor hangs Xorg

2009-08-30 Thread Stefano Rivera
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Hardware: MacBook 2,1
Running: Karmic amd64

Attaching an external VGA monitor causes X to lock-up (can't change to
VT, black screen except for mouse pointer, which can't be moved) In one
of the crashes, the mouse pointer could be moved, and changed type over
different parts of the screen (e.g. text pointer over console).

Starting X with the VGA monitor attached works, but the monitor can't
re-configured from the start-up settings or it'll probably lock-up.

If the machine is booted with the monitor attached, it will pick up the
correct settings via EDID (eg capable of 1024x...@75), otherwise it only
sees up to 1024x...@60.

After a while, this appears in the kernel log:

[ 840.481089] INFO: task i915/0:825 blocked for more than 120 seconds.
