2022-08-17 Thread Moreau Julien
This happened to me when I upgraded from 20.04 to 22.04
I have had to do this manually as I don't think any of the command lines are
correct above. I actually lost my graphic interface in the process.
So at black screen I started a new TTY (Ctr alt F2)
I have gone to the folder
/var/lib/dpkg
I copied the diversions-old to a diversion_old.old
Then the diversions to diversions-old
Here was my diversions file:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1875005] Re: 3D acceleration not working with NVidia driver

2020-04-27 Thread Julien Olivier
Actually, I’ve just found out that adding “Option “PrimaryGPU” “Yes”” to
/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-nvidia.conf made the 3D acceleration (and
nvidia-settings) work! However, now, I have no way to switch between AMR
Raven and GTX: it always uses the GTX.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1875005] [NEW] 3D acceleration not working with NVidia driver

2020-04-25 Thread Julien Olivier
Public bug reported:

I have a laptop with both AMD Raven and Nvidia GTX 1050 video adapters.
I wanted to test the new game mode in Ubuntu 20.04, and noticed that
only the AMD Raven actually works. To do the test, I tried launching a
terminal and running gxgears, both in a normal way, and then using the
"start using dedicated video adapter" (or whatever it really is in
English) option in gnome-shell.

Using the standard video adapter (probably the AMD Raven), it works, but slowly.
Using the dedicated video adapter, I get the following:

juloliv@juloliv:~$ glxgears
X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for
operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 152 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 3 (X_GLXCreateContext)
  Value in failed request: 0x0
Serial number of failed request: 25
Current serial number in output stream: 26

NB: in both cases, I tried launching nvidia-settings and got the
following:

juloliv@juloliv:~$ nvidia-settings

ERROR: Unable to load info from any available system

(nvidia-settings:9213): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: 12:33:29.270: g_object_unref:

** Message: 12:33:29.273: PRIME: No offloading required. Abort

And then a blank window...

and with preferences set to "Message Display => Emoji Style => None:
plain text only", a numerous quantity of emojis in a single message sent
will crash the system and set you back to the session login screen.

This only happens with official "slack" package. "scudcloud" is not /
does not seem affected.

Definition of "numerous": 399 ":rooster:" emojis sent in a single
message is enough to crash the system.

To reproduce: install slack via apt above, get someone to punk you with
a single line of as many emojis as possible.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1486036] [NEW] Faulty graphics behaviour when resuming from suspend with intel graphics drivers

2015-08-18 Thread julien
Public bug reported:

I will copy and paste an excerpt from the link below. Is this the right
place to post the bug?

Waking from suspend, everything seems normal, except the graphical
elements and text on my desktop are not drawn properly. Sometimes,
moving the mouse over icons can cause them to be redrawn, sometimes not.
It appears not to matter how I initiate the suspend (e.g. by closing
laptop lid, or by calling pm-suspend explicitly) and it appears not to
matter whether I am using an external display or the laptop's own
screen.

All other hardware appears to be working, and I can restart the laptop
by clicking where the icons ought to be. The only symptom seems to be
that the drawing does not happen correctly.

I'm not sure what additional information I should provide to help
diagnose the problem, so please advise me.

Also, if this is more likely to be a xfce issue, then please change the
package on the bug report.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1452318] Re: Faulty behavior when resuming from suspend

2015-08-18 Thread julien
What does your xrandr give? I get that the maximum is 32767 or something,
although my resolution is not that. Is that normal?
Perhaps the resolution changes after suspend? My xrandr is the same before and
after I just checked, but the maximum value I find a little strange.

Should be be posting this elsewhere, by xorg, do you mean the xorg group
or the xorg division of ubuntu?

Here is what I see. I use FVWM and the results are even worse. This
occurs every time I suspend and resume into fvwm. If I log out of FVWM
and log back in, the glitches go away.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1028617] Re: Cursor shakes violently when connected to power source - makes touchpad cursor unusable

2015-02-26 Thread Julien-Charles Lévesque
The problem is related to electrical interference from the power supply
(see http://superuser.com/questions/76649/laptop-touchpad-works-
incorrectly-when-on-power-supply). As suggested by users here,
increasing the noise threshold helps.

In my case, this problem happens because I am using a cheap ebay power
supply that was not manufactured by my laptop's maker.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1375486] [NEW] Blank screen when monitor is turned on after boot

2014-09-29 Thread Julien Villemure
Public bug reported:

- System:

Ubuntu 14.04.1 amd64 (freshly installed from scratch)
Kernel 3.13.0-24-generic #47-Ubuntu SMP
Radeon HD 5450 sending video and audio via HDMI to an A/V receiver, which
itself is connected via HDMI to a TV.

- Steps to reproduce:

1) With the computer off, turn on the receiver and the TV
2) Boot computer
3) The login screen appears correctly, everything's fine.
4) Turn off receiver
5) Turn on receiver
6) Blank screen and no sound.
7) I am able to switch to the TTYs by pressing e.g. Ctrl-Alt-F1, but if I try
to go back to my X session by pressing Ctrl-Alt-F7, it's still on the blank
screen.

My setup is functional with other devices (PS3, Windows) and worked fine
with Ubuntu 13.10. This is a new problem in Ubuntu 14.04.1.

- Workaround:
restart lightdm

- Logs:
Xorg.0.log
dmesg.txt

Near the bottom of dmesg.txt there are errors regarding EDID:

The above is wrong. This is about a Debian-specific file, not something

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 199486]

2013-08-01 Thread Julien Cristau
 --- Comment #9 from Jeremy Huddleston jerem...@freedesktop.org 2011-10-03
 00:31:49 PDT ---
configure.ac needs a bit more work. For example, if I pass --with-consolekit
and I don't actually have it, configure should error out, but it just
 silently
continues without consolekit. Other than that, it looks good. Mind updating
the patch? Feel free to email it to xorg-devel for review, or attach here
 and
I'll review it again. Bonus points if you use 'git format-patch' with a
 commit
message that I can use rather than just 'git diff'

Hrm. What about the comments from Loic?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 199486]

2013-08-01 Thread Julien Cristau
 --- Comment #11 from Jeremy Huddleston jerem...@freedesktop.org 2011-10-04

 (In reply to comment #10)
Hrm. What about the comments from Loic?

I don't think our comments conflict. Loic was concerned about adding
dependencies, and I was suggesting making them soft rather than hard
 dependencies.

Comment #7 and comment #9 sound conflicting to me, but ok.

The only real concern that I see is Michael's:

Typically xinit is not run as a root, so the user does not have enough
permissions to create a session with parameters.
I question weather or not we should try to move this call into X? X is
  setuid
  root.

I admit that I did not read that comment the first time through as it was
collapsed in my view of the bug. On darwin, we trigger a LaunchDaemon in
startx to do some privileged actions for xinit (like creating
 /tmp/.X11-unix).
How is this currently handled on other OSs? Still as an init script?

At least on Debian, yes, /tmp/.X11-unix is created on boot by an init
script.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1166988] Re: With latest xserver-xorg update, switching to VT does not work anymore

2013-04-10 Thread Julien Aubin
After remembering the history around this bug, this looks much more like
a kernel bug than an xorg bug, as I've remarked the first black screen
after upgrading to kernel 3.8.0-17.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1166988] [NEW] With latest xserver-xorg update, switching to VT does not work anymore

2013-04-09 Thread Julien Aubin
Public bug reported:

DO : start Kubuntu with latest xserver-xorg package updates.
DO : switch to VT using Ctrl+Alt+Fx
EXPECT : the screen actually switches to VT
ACTUAL : black screen with no signal sent to it (it becomes actually in
sleeping mode). However it is possible to switch back to X.

Config :
AMD Phenom X4 9850
8 GB RAM
NVidia GeForce 660 Ti with NVidia 304 proprietary driver
Kubuntu 13.04.

I underline the fact that my installation lasts from Feisty without any
trouble during upgrades, the only difference I see with newer installs
is that the font within VT looks like old MS-DOS fonts, instead of the
nicer fonts of newer Ubuntu releases, but that's the only noticeable
difference.

Everything else works fine, and accessing shells through SSH also works,
so this is really a display problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 999814] Re: Touchpad scrolling and tapping stops working after a while

2012-09-30 Thread Julien-Charles Lévesque
Still experiencing this issue under Ubuntu 12.10 with Kernel 3.5.0-16.

Logging out and back in fixes it, although often only temporarily (comes
back after minutes or hours, it varies)

** Summary changed:

- Multitouch stops working after a while
+ Touchpad scrolling and tapping stops working after a while

** Description changed:

When I boot into my system, an ASUS Zenbook UX31, the elantech touchpad
works fine. I have a small script to configure it which is run when my
session starts, and those parameters are applied fine without problem.

Here is the script, in case something in there might be relevant :

  #!/bin/sh
  synclient FingerLow=9 FingerHigh=12
  synclient MinSpeed=2.0 MaxSpeed=4.0 AccelFactor=0.1
  synclient VertTwoFingerScroll=1 HorizTwoFingerScroll=0
  synclient CoastingSpeed=10 CoastingFriction=25
  synclient TapButton1=1 TapButton2=3 TapButton3=2
  synclient EdgeMotionMinZ=30 EdgeMotionMaxZ=40 EdgeMotionMinSpeed=100
EdgeMotionMaxSpeed=400
  synclient PalmDetect=1 PalmMinWidth=5 PalmMinZ=1
#must restart syndaemon to set those params.
  killall syndaemon
  syndaemon -i 1 -t -K -d

- The issue is that after a while, the multitouch just stops working. I am
- still able to use the touchpad, but it cannot scroll with two fingers, I
- cannot tap with two-three fingers to right-middle click, it's all gone.
- I haven't been able to pinpoint the exact issue yet.
+ The issue is that after a while, some features of the touchpad stop
+ working. They include tapping (one-two-three fingers) and two-finger
+ scrolling. The clickpad functions are still working. I haven't been able
+ to pinpoint the exact issue yet.

- I have also encountered this issue with the 3.4.0-rc6 kernel.
-
- In 11.10, everything ran smoothly, and I never encountered this issue.
+ I have encountered this issue with many kernels, including 3.4.0-rc6
+ kernel and the one in this report.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1032672] Re: fglrx-updates broken dependency with xorg-video-abi-12 (Quantal)

2012-09-29 Thread Julien Olivier
The i386 package is still v2:8.982 while the amd64 package has been
upgraded to v2:9.000. Is it normal or is there a problem with the i386

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 521877]

2012-08-22 Thread Julien Cristau
 --- Comment #67 from Samuel Thibault samuel.thiba...@ens-lyon.org
 2011-02-13 14:27:50 PST ---
In both 17 and 21 monitor cases, I do want 100% zoom to really mean 100%
zoom, so I need correct DPI.

No, you need whatever app you're using to get the info about screen size
from somewhere it has a decent chance of being correct (randr), instead
of Display{Height,Width}MM.

ef : I don't think to have done anything
I came back to free driver because of this bug whith proprietary drivers and
stay like that for a few days whithout any bug and when Alberto Milone asked
for the kern.log after a crash, I switch to proprietary driver (current
version) and I've no bug since I do that.

So I don't understand why but it worked...

don't encounter this bug since I've done this manipulation 2 weeks ago.
So, I suspect an issue with the motherboard staying under tension when the PC

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 916568] Re: Multiple focus problems on first connexion

2012-04-18 Thread Julien
I don't see anything exotic in my configuration (either software or hardware)
but here are some elements :
- Motherboard : Gigabyte P55-UD6
- CPU Core i5
- 4GoRAM
- GPU : NVidia 9800GT Silent
- the issues occures on both 32bits-PAE Precise and 64bits Oneiric installation
(Dual-boot)
- I don't have other OS installed on this PC

I can't test on live USB now (no key and no CD available) but I'll try the
Week-end.
However, I tried to boot in guest account and the bug was present (and this
time, there was no reaction to right or left clic...)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 916568] Re: Multiple focus problems on first connexion

2012-04-16 Thread Julien
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected precise ubuntu

** Description changed:

  Hello,

[EDIT] Unlike what I thought, the problem is probably not related to
compiz: I get the same type of problem under Unity2D[/EDIT] [EDIT] and
  gnome-shell[/EDIT] [EDIT2] and openbox too... [/EDIT2]

The bug appears in my 11.10 system with the last update of compiz (i.e.
01-05-2012).
At the first connection after the boot, I face many problems with the focus
on the interface: I can generally use the Unity-dash to launch an application
(sometimes two) but then the dash no longer appears correctly, the indicators
either, I can not focus from one window to another ... However, I noticed that
the keyboard shortcuts usually work.
So I find myself stuck. The only workaround I've found is to launch a
system-Alt-k and then reconnect. Here the problem doesn't reproduce until next
boot.

I made a video showing the expected behavior (after reconnection) and the
behavior that I get on startup: http://ubuntuone.com/5tD98knn0gNXPofcknz285
The audio comment is in French, but I was unable to do this in English ...

- I hope this report will be useful ... If information is needed about my
- configuration, I can complete it later.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 916568] Re: Multiple focus problems on first connexion

2012-04-16 Thread Julien
Indeed, the video was made in Oneiric for which the launcher is not in
auto-hide mode but intelli-hide mode. However, the problem remains the same
with precise ...
The bug isn't just affecting the launcher but also the windows that do not take
focus. Sometimes I can not even access the indicators (so I have to close the
session with Alt-sys-k).
The windows focus problme also affects other WM I tried.

After some tests, it seems that the bug occurs in Evolution and Nautilus but
not in Epiphany and Synaptic...
In Nautilus, I can make it work normally by keeping the left mouse button
pressed while scrolling. It doesn't help in Evolution though...

I'm lost here :)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 916568] Re: Multiple focus problems on first connexion

2012-03-05 Thread Julien
This bug seems to have disappeared from Oneiric and Precise during the WE. Last
week updates could be involved in the solution but i can't be affirmative...
So... Thanks to I don't know who

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 916568] Re: Multiple focus problems on first connexion

2012-02-24 Thread Julien
** Package changed: ubuntu = xorg (Ubuntu)

** Description changed:

  Hello,

[EDIT] Unlike what I thought, the problem is probably not related to
compiz: I get the same type of problem under Unity2D[/EDIT] [EDIT] and
- gnome-shell[/EDIT] [EDIT2] end openbox too... [/EDIT2]
+ gnome-shell[/EDIT] [EDIT2] and openbox too...

I hope this report will be useful ... If information is needed about my
configuration, I can complete it later.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 772873] Re: Vino does not work with compositing

2012-01-13 Thread Julien Olivier
Bryce: the description of the bug is Vino does not work with
compositing. If this bug is only going to focus on the issue with
fglrx, the description has to be changed to FGLRX doesn't work with
Vino. Else, it's getting comments and attention from people getting
this bug with other video drivers.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 915906] [NEW] Vino does not work with compositing using ATI open source driver

2012-01-13 Thread Julien Olivier
Public bug reported:

Vino, the built in VNC server in Ubuntu, has had a problem for many
releases where it won't update the display when connected remotely if
compositing is enabled. This can be easily reproduced using Unity and
gnome-shell.

Apparently, bug #772873 only takes care of the same bug with the fglrx
driver, so this bug is there to take care of the issue with ATI's open
source driver.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 881821] [NEW] Cursor randomly drops at zero in Gimp

2011-10-26 Thread Julien Jorge
Public bug reported:

Hi,

When using a Wacom tablet with Gimp in Oneiric the cursor randomly drops
at zero on one axis or the other, making the software unusable.

The bug is reported on Gnome's Bugzilla and the discussion pointed out
that the cause may be the driver or GTK. See the report for the complete
discussion and a screencast of the problem:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=661872

The problem did not exist in Natty. I have also installed the xserver-
xorg-input-wacom package from Natty in Oneiric with no success.

If this can help: I have created a DKMS source tree based on your patch
for linux 3.0.

Installation instructions:
sudo apt-get install dkms

If you had install the module based on the patch of comment #64 of the original

cd /usr/src/

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 421261] Re: xterm background colour used to be black, now white

Figured this one out... Ubuntu's /etc/gdm/Xsession doesn't set

/etc/X11/Xresources/x11-common is never read.

2011-02-13 Thread Julien Cristau
This should be fixed by
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/commit/?id=cbe9fc12a64c3ae89fd1b20e9e165aa4b76293a5
in mesa, work around for xorg-server at
http://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/3987/
There's a couple other patches for mesa in the same vein that should go with
that, AFAIK they're all cherry-picked to the 7.10 branch.
You may also want http://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/3986/ and
http://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/3985/ in your X server.
