Kurt, please file a separate bug report so we don't bother David with
it. Use ubuntu-bug xserver-xorg-video-savage and make sure bad and
good logs are attached, as well as your xorg.conf.

Just so you know i deleted the xorg.conf and the pc was working fine as i told
you.
Then today suddenly i could not see a larger resolution than 800x600, when i
put back the auto-generated xorg.conf it works fine. I looked at the both
xorg.0.log and old and they appear to be the same

The issue to me is that it needs a xorg.conf and then it works fine, so i am
not sure if it qualifies as a bug or not.
Cheers

Kurt, yes if you need an xorg.conf it is a bug.

Title:
Ubuntu 10.04 doesn't set hardware acceleration on ProSavageDDR
David, everything looks fine in those logs. Does it mean it works fine
for you out-of-the-box? Is it possible that your previous problem was
caused by an old xorg.conf which broke something?
Kurt, if it does not work fine without xorg.conf for you, can you please
file a separate bug report?

David and Kurt, I could need some testing for another savage fix in bug
579071... The more different cards and 3D applications the better.

David
Just so you know , i have the same video controller you are using but i get
direct rendering: Yes
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI ProSavageDDR 20061110 x86/MMX+/3DNow!+/SSE
What i did was to start in recovery mode and run
X - configure
then run
mv /root/xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Can you please attach Xorg.0.log in the case of no xorg.conf? This
should work out of the box so the log can tell us what goes wrong.

David, please run apport-collect 705464 after starting X without any
xorg.conf. We are trying to fix a bug here, not just coming up with
workarounds! Thanks.
