The second monitor isn't detected even after reboot, running xrandr
confirms that.

This bug is really annoying. I read a bug similar to this one (#263211) that
claims this has been resolved in 8.10. Unfortunatelly this does not seem to be
the case.
I am on Lucid and affected by the bug.
And no, I am not using Chrome so that suggestion does not apply here.
Since 10.04
It seems that the initial fix was triggering some stalls, upstream has
produced an updated patch. Could those of you affected please test the
newest kernel at the url below. Please report any testing back here:

It appears to be not in terminals issue, just ANY window. More opened windows
cause more cpu usage on xorg.

Same problem with ATI card. Todays upgrade of Xorg rendered my screen
resolution (normally 1680x1050) to 1400x1050. No way to reset it - as

My upgrade went smoothly (have nvidia) and even the driver was updated,
but after a restart X won't start, because nvidia driver complains about
