I think this is a bug with Synaptics driver, rather than xinput.
I added a xorg.conf and changed to Driver "libinput"
With libinput the mouse pointer is moving in all directions.

Same problem here with also with on a Lenovo ideapad 500S-13ISK.
Horizontal movement stops after login - it works while still in gdm.
