Ssendaula upset

Finance minister Gerald Ssendaula is not one to mince words. He was overheard blasting the men and women of the pen. He was pissed off that instead of running important issues such as the ADB meeting on their front pages, the journalists fill their front pages with women and stories about beauty pageants.

Sebaggala earthquake

He is yet to return, but Seya Sebaggala is already causing ripples in the DP camp. Will be interesting to watch what happens when he returns on July 27. Lubaga South MP John Ken Lukyamuzi, good at organising demonstrations, is in charge of Sebaggala’s welcome-back-home festivities. If the party turns into a demonstration you now know why.

The return of the man, who wants to be next president of Uganda under the DP banner, has sent the old Democratic Party leadership shaking. We now hear that the DP wants to do something before the Seya storms town to spoil everything. Now the party is in hurry to clean its house.

Even DP President Dr Paul Kawanga Ssemogerere who was reluctant to reconcile with Francis Bwengye’s faction is reported to be cooperating because of the heat generated by Sebaggala’s imminent return. Sebaggala, a former Kampala mayor and ex-convict, has already announced that he will run for Kampala mayor in 2005.

That would bring him in direct collision with the incumbent John Ssebaana Kizito, who is also the DP treasurer. Sebaggala clearly wants the mayor’s chair back.

He also wants the DP constitution changed so that any member other than the president general can run for state House on the party ticket. Looks like there is no end to what he wants. He also wants to stand for president in 2006. It is going to be difficult to contain him.
