THE Government should outlaw paramilitary organisations including Kalangala Action Plan (KAP) and youth brigades, the Uganda Joint Christian Council (UJCC) has said.

The council discouraged the use of money to influence political transition.

The resolutions were made at the end of the two-day plenary held at Pope Paul VI Memorial Community Centre that started on Wednesday.

They also committed themselves to dialoguing with the Government and donors to ensure that the latter do not cut aid to Uganda.

The plenary was attended by Metropolitan Jonah Lwanga (chairperson) and co-chairpersons Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala and the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Henry Luke Orombi, bishops, clergy, laity, women and youth representatives. It was under the theme "Tolerance and celebration of diversity."

Addressing a press conference at the end of their deliberations, Wamala said organisations like KAP had been named in election violence in the past.

He said KAP and the new brigades linked to political parties and organisations should not be allowed to resurface because they infringed on people's rights and destabilised the country.

He said they would forward their resolutions to the Government.
