There are some GUI debuggers; most of them are actually just frontends
to gdb. If you use GNOME, you might want to have a look at
http://home.gna.org/nemiver/. There's also ddd
(http://www.gnu.org/software/ddd/), which is quite powerful, but has a
rather clunky interface.

apropos debug turned up gdb, which doesn't seem to be quite the
thing. Even I'm not crazy enough to debug a GUI app at the
assembly language level, particularly one I didn't write.
