Hi.

We have a bunch of - quite old - Compaq ML380 Server equipped with
SmartArray/2 SCSI-controller. These are supported by a current Fedora Core 2
(2.6.8-1.521) without trouble.

FEDORA CORE 2

# uname -a
Linux dhcp-testlab-254 2.6.8-1.521 #1 Mon Aug 16 09:01:18 EDT 2004 i686 i686

# dmesg: (partial)

cpqarray: Finding drives on ida0 (Integrated Array)
cpqarray ida/c0d0: blksz=512 nr_blks=17756160
cpqarray: Starting firmware's background processing
 ida/c0d0: p1 p2 p3 p4 < p5 >
...
EXT3-fs: mounted filesystem with ordered data mode.
EXT3 FS on ida/c0d0p5, internal journal

Using the current bootdisk for unattended, fails to discover the attached
disk:

LINUX-BOOTDISK 4.4 b/c
======================

# uname -a
Linux dhcp-testlab-254 2.6.8.1 #1 Sat Aug 14 11:58:41 EDT 2004 i686 unknown

# dmesg: (partial)

Compaq SMART2 Driver (v 2.6.0)
cpqarray: Device 0x10 has been found at bus 0 dev 1 func 0
cpqarray: Finding drives on ida0Using anticipatory io scheduler

cpqarray: error sending ID controller
cpqarray: Starting firmware's background processing
cpqarray ida0: idaSendPciCmd Timeout out, No command list address returned!
cpqarray: Unable to start background processing

I have set acpi=off with no difference.

With a look at the line stating "Using anticipatory io scheduler", that is
different from the message in Fedora Core 2, i forced the kernel to use
scheduler = anticipatory | deadline | noop. Again without changes - beside
stating that the kernel using the mentioned scheduler.

Help / guidance for the next steps i can try is apreciated.

With best regards
