Admittedly what we have currently for spread is not ideal in Unity but
I believe unity's spread, if enhanced and thought carefully could
become a better solution for the problem. What windows 7 have (which
is exactly what you are proposing and many others have been as well)
have smaller thumbnails
Nice effort - it needs to be carefully studied.

in every type of quicklist is *truncated*:
And, if they are truncated, they run the risk of losing all inherent value.
Also, you need to define how long is too long while considering the font
size on Ubuntu Quicklists is larger than 7's so we can't have as
7 matches
