In Debian the script openvas-nvt-sync is provided by openvas-plugins-
base package, recommended by openvas-server. This package will be
included in Lucid. To solve the problem in Karmic you need to make the
script from the source package, and then you can run it to download
plugins.

What will it take to get some sort of official support for just the

seen other compatibility libraries in the repositories before. To me an

I'm reopening this bug and confirming, as a few other people (previous
comments) and I have noticed this issue in both the GUI and non-GUI
versions of mplayer. It's particularly annoying with gnome-screensaver
because for some reason, it does not recognize any input from the
keyboard/mouse while
It’s not a pulseaudio problem. I removed it and use alsa and the
terrible sounds are still here.

The script will just fetch the plugins, but some scripts require the
nes-plugins, which are provided by openvas-plugins-base and are binary
packages. So just grabbing the openvas-nvt-sync script will not fully
solve your problem.

OpenAL Soft (the default OpenAL implementation) causes troubles in
combination with PulseAudio that is used by default on the Ubuntu
desktop. These troubles can be very different going from just no sound
to crashes and freezes of apps that use OpenAL (mostly games).

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
this is very similar to Bug #203158 which describes the problems SDL has
with it's ALSA output when Pulse is running.

to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross
I also have this bug. It is strange it is not 'critical' importance.
User *without any rights* easily shuts down server with a lot of other
users connected...
