1.6 refuses to update feeds when in offline mode, and correctly detects
NM status changes.
However, if you set the preference to update all feeds on startup, and
start Liferea when there's no network, it will correctly detect that

Dato, xdg-open works fine here in Debian + GNOME (although I don't have
mplayer installed).
I think this would be accepted long after FeatureFreeze. That is in
February 19th, but I'd say until end of March is fine, but the sooner,
the better (so we can test it).
