We can't do anything about bugs in the eclipse.org packager. You can
either use the Ubuntu package, which has this fixed, wait for
eclipse.org to release an official version with the fix, or pull the
patch

Eclipse 3.4 only ran on the Ubuntu OpenJDK 6 package -- the Sun JVM
would crash after seconds of use, and gij was completely unusable for
some reason that slips my mind. It's entirely possible that 3.5.x works
with the Ubuntu Sun JVM package in Karmic, but you should test it first
before assuming

Looks like the hack starting on line 49 of DrvHostDVD.cpp doesn't work
anymore with the kernel headers in Jaunty. Fixing it might be as easy
as adding

under
# define _LINUX_BYTEORDER_SWAB_H
but I don't have a Jaunty i386 VM handy to try it right now.

The classic update manager can't be used to update a plugin installed in
a global read-only location. It tries to install it to your user plugin
location, but when you restart, the global directory overrides the user-
specific one. But you can use the update manager to install new
plugins.
