same problem for me, Hardy Heron, from a fresh install it did not work.
Only think I did that may be wrong was, on PureAdmin's first run I
skipped the create default user and group box (2nd of the 2 messages
that appear). Can't seem to re-create this now, when I un-install it
doesn't remove all
OK, been playing around with this, it would seem that, by default,
PureAdmin does not add the paths to Default password file and Default
puredb file.
I followed the manual here https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PureFTP
which details creating these files, not sure if they were already there
