I experienced the same issue -- existing box, upgraded to Karmic,
suddenly saw timezone warnings from php in MythWeb. The following fixed
it:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure tzdata

I tracked down the problem. When I tried to connect with a seperate
frontend, it was dying complaining that the server timezone was
different - BST instead of Europe/London. So I checked, and
/etc/localtime was different on the 2 machines. The server has been
ubuntu since about version 6.04,
I'll raise the second php error as another bug, as I don't think it's
related.
