[Bug 446040] [NEW] vdpau video output breaks fullscreen playback at least on some GPUs

2009-10-08 Thread Krzysztof Klimonda
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mplayer

With default settings, on default Karmic installation, with compiz enabled
mplayer can freeze whole system, crash itself or compiz when user toggles movie
to full screen.
Some output from mplayer:
[vdpau] Error when calling vdp_output_surface_create: The system does not have
enough resources to complete the requested operation at this time.
[vdpau] Error when calling vdp_presentation_queue_block_until_surface_idle: An
invalid handle value was provided.
[vdpau] Error when calling vdp_video_mixer_render: An invalid handle value was
provided.
[vdpau] Error when calling vdp_presentation_queue_display: An invalid handle
value was provided.
it just loops itself. No difference between HD and normal content.
When you add
vc=ffmpeg12vdpau,ffh264vdpau,ffwmv3vdpau,ffvc1vdpau,
to ~/.mplayer/config playback works but not at full speed, also new errors are
displayed in terminal:
[vdpau] Error when calling vdp_presentation_queue_block_until_surface_idle: A
catch-all error, used when no other error code applies.
[vdpau] Error when calling vdp_presentation_queue_block_until_surface_idle: An
invalid handle value was provided.

Everything works fine once compiz is disabled.

[Bug 379052] Re: [regression] Broadcom 4312 Not working in 9.10 (Kernel 2.6.30 restricted modules ?)

2009-10-08 Thread captainslog
Had the same problem on my Lenovo 300 C200. Curiously I can add the
Broadcom BCM 4311 wifi driver from the live CD
(System/Administration/Hardware Drivers) but when I installed the beta,
the option to add this driver doesnt exist. i.e.
System/Administration/Hardware Drivers doesnt show any propriety drivers
to add.

As a workaround I rebooted from the live CD again, activated the driver
and THEN installed again by clicking the install icon on the desktop. I
didn't choose to install from the menu.

After this the driver shows up but I can't get it to activate. I
followed the solution above and reinstalled bcmwl-kernel-source from the
synaptic package manager after choosing the install CD as a repository
source and now the driver can be activated.

A 2 minute fix and all is good

[Bug 446057] [NEW] Double-click to open files didn't work when skulpture style is used

2009-10-08 Thread Murz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kde-style-skulpture

I have selected an option Double-click to open files on kde systemsettings.
In kdeglobals file this option saved correctly:
SingleClick=false

But when I select to use the skulpture style in kde systemsettings, all files
and buttons goes to open in single-click.
When I change it to another theme (without changing anything else) the
double-click works normally.
Please fix it, because skulpture theme is very nice for me!

Yes i connected from two PC's on same account. I just testet it again

No.

 It looks similar to http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23684
and it was supposed to be fixed in telepathy-gabble 0.8.5.

I use version 0.8.5-1 . on my second pc i tryed ppa:telepathy with no

[Bug 439868] Re: UEC images could be smaller

2009-10-08 Thread Thierry Carrez
Hm, I'm slightly concerned about the need for root rights in that
script, as it basically forces the cloud customer that wants to bundle
a UEC image to use a client system on which he has root rights (while he
could use any system before). Please post your new script to the ubuntu-
devel resize-image thread. Maybe someone creative will come up with a
solution that allows to expand the fs in a reliable way without making
the whole process dependent on you having root rights.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

However, processing it in order to get sufficient information for the
developers failed (it does not generate an useful symbolic stack trace).
This might be caused by some outdated packages which were installed on
your system at the time of the report. Please upgrade your system to the
latest package versions. If you still encounter the crash, please file a
new report.

[Bug 446080] [NEW] FFe for updating -intel to 2.9.0

2009-10-08 Thread Bryce Harrington
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

[Request]
Update of xserver-xorg-video-intel to version 2.9.0.

[Rationale]
2.9.0 is almost entirely a bugfix-only release. It contains one new feature,
which is the addition of support for a new chipset. No existing functionality
is removed. There are no changes in ABI/API. There are no changes in
dependency versions.

At UDS we knew the schedule for 2.9.0 placed it at around beta, and so
set our requirements to 2.8.x, with a maybe for 2.9.0 if it was
entirely bug-fix and was especially stable. In our evaluation, it does
meet the criteria we required of it. It is proving to be quite stable,
and aside from the one chipset feature (which we need in order to
support customers) is entirely bug fixes. In fact it includes fixes for
a number of bugs we have forwarded to them over the past few months,
including solving some longstanding i8xx regressions that have plagued
us for several releases.

[Testing]
In addition to going through Intel's QA testing procedures, we have carried git
snapshots of the 2.9.0 driver and the release candidates leading up to it in
our xorg-edgers repository. A number of people run this repository routinely,
and report bugs to launchpad so we have had good visibility into the quality of
this particular release.

Additionally, the specific package version we propose to incorporate is
derived from Debian's xserver-xorg-video-intel (2:2.9.0-1), which is
being tested in unstable presently.

[Contingency]
If this FFe is accepted, we will also place the current 2.8.x driver into the
x-retro PPA at the same time, versioned in a way that enables reversion to the
older driver. If by chance there are any serious regressions found in the
2.9.0 driver, we will be able to revert back to the prior 2.8.x driver with
minimal effort.

If this FFe is not accepted, we can cherrypick individual patches from
the release (indeed, we've already been doing this), although we
probably will not have time to backport all the fixes we would like to
see in karmic.

[Bug 446080] Re: FFe for updating -intel to 2.9.0

2009-10-08 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Ack'ed, this is part of intel Q3-2009 bugfix release (with kernel
2.6.31.2, libdrm 2.4.14, mesa 7.6), and it makes sense to have the whole
stack in 9.10. Possible bugreports are easier to forward upstream when
the baseline is well known to them.

Yes, I understand, that's the point. If grub2 depends on grub-pc,

It's an unversioned dependency, so the old version satisfies the

(This may be an error in how the dependency is declared, but it's how it
is right now.)

I'm presuming the postinst script ran grub-update for me?

update-grub is always run, yes.

In any case, the problem seems to be resolved now -- maybe the issue was
nothing more than grub-update wasn't getting run on grub2 update.

Could be, though that code hasn't changed in a while ...

[Bug 439868] Re: UEC images could be smaller

2009-10-08 Thread Eric Hammond
Thierry: Half joking, I'll point out that anybody can have root on an
Ubuntu system for an hour for only $0.10 with EC2.

More seriously: If the benefit of the rsync approach is only to increase
the number of inodes, perhaps the original mke2fs could be run with the
-N option to increase the number of inodes to something reasonable for
both 2GB and 10GB.

The truncate method certainly seems like it would be faster than the
rsync.

[Bug 446123] [NEW] evtouch calibrrtation fails with multiple monitors

2009-10-08 Thread Andrew Frank
Public bug reported:

i observe that touchscreen calibration produces a reasonable (but still
wrong minY) value config file, but when this file is used then a small
area of the touchscreen is mapped to the second screen. another small
area is mapped to the touchscreen itself. it is obviously a serious
miscalculation occuring when two monitors (not mirrored) are used . i
guess that the total envelop of the two screens is mapped to the
touchscreen area - and then only the two small areas are actually
controlling the cursor in a visible window. when i had a single monitor
configuration, it worked.

expected behavious: the touchscreen controls the cursor on the
touchscreen only - to go to the other screen a mouse is required.
principle for touchscreens: the cursor is under the touch...

thank you for fixing
andrew

[Bug 445873] Re: Problems in MythBackend.php for mythweb

2009-10-08 Thread ChrisLaw
I tracked down the problem. When I tried to connect with a seperate
frontend, it was dying complaining that the server timezone was
different - BST instead of Europe/London. So I checked, and
/etc/localtime was different on the 2 machines. The server has been
ubuntu since about version 6.04, whereas the client is a fresh install.
So I'm assuming that at some point in the past, /etc/localtime was set
up to use BST. I changed it to a symlink to
/usr/share/zoneinfo/Europe/London, that fixed the frontend connection
problem. I then undid the change I'd made to MythBackend.php, and that
now works with the new timezone value too. Whether this just moves the
bug or clears it I don't know.

[Bug 446131] [NEW] Eclipse doesn't open my C++ files

2009-10-08 Thread Matyáš Křišťan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eclipse

Eclipse starts normally but doesn't open the files in my project (they are
*.cpp files).
On the place where should be text of the file(s), it reports a error (with
every error, the report seems to be same).

Here it is :

[Bug 446132] [NEW] Please merge mksh 39.1-3 (universe) from Debian testing (main)

2009-10-08 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mksh

Binary package hint: mksh

The new version contains a *iot* of important bugfixes and has even entered
testing after 5 instead of the regular 10 days. The old Ubuntu specific patches
(one to disable debconf, as we cannot change /bin/sh away from dash, the
other to work around a gcc bug in jaunty and karmic) are still necessary.

I have tested it in a karmic chroot freshly a-g d-u’d today (otherwise
not used).

I would kindly request this upload be sponsored (I am both mksh upstream author
and Debian package maintainer, and also had the last 2 uploads of mksh
sponsored,
see LP#375604 and LP#385887). Debdiff attached as usual.

mksh (39.1-3ubuntu1) karmic; urgency=low

  * debian/mksh.postinst: hardcode debconf question if mksh should
be installed as /bin/sh to false (see LP: #348872) but retain
debconf infrastructure so that, if this was set to true in old
installations, it will correctly be removed on upgrade
  * debian/rules: remove “-combine” option from Build.sh invocation
to work around a gcc bug (see LP: #375604)

 -- Thorsten Glaser t...@mirbsd.de Thu, 08 Oct 2009 08:23:59 +

mksh (39.1-3) unstable; urgency=low

  * Add support for using pax instead of cpio for extraction
  * Backport fix for return code bug (Closes: #548744)

 -- Thorsten Glaser t...@mirbsd.de Tue, 29 Sep 2009 12:46:07 +

mksh (39.1-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * debian/rules: build mksh-small without floating point support
also, because it’s ⓐ huge and ⓑ buggy in dietlibc
  * debian/diffs/backport-function-parens.diff: new, support the
function stop () { bashism sometimes popular in sh scripts
  * debian/diffs/zz-version.diff: fix an oversight and use the
actual 39.1-* version number instead of 38.9.mmdd-* from
when this patch was first being created in an experimental
version; refresh diff against original files; use -U1 instead
of -up for sh.h diff to not get fuzz at the RCS ID

 -- Thorsten Glaser t...@mirbsd.de Sat, 26 Sep 2009 21:18:54 +

mksh (39.1-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream version R39 (despite #540512, I got fed up waiting for
Guillem/Gerrit to contact me), Closes: #541617; complete ChangeLog:
- [tg] Shut up a bogus gcc warning during configuration process
- [tg] Spell ATT consistently in the source code
- [tg] Tweak mksh(1) manual page, from wbx@ and «lewellyn:#ksh»
- [tg] dot.mkshrc: fix $@ vs. $* mix-up
- [tg] dot.mkshrc: add DJB cdb hash function
- [tg] Sync with oksh: fix Vi editing mode word erase handling, again
- [tg] Skip whitespace between POSIX style shell function name and
its definition parenthesēs during detection if an alias of the same
name already exists to be more robust (Debian Closes: #535970)
- [tg] Build system improvements for ACK and nwcc, both on Debian sid
- [tg] Fix spelling error in changelog discovered by Lintian
- [tg] Aligh “set -o nounset” / “set -u” behaviour with future POSIX
standard, as discussed with GNU bash maintainers, David Korn from
  ATT ksh93, and The Open Group; prompted by use in Debian;
  Closes: #539538
- [tg] add an unsupported way to make printf(1) a builtin
- [tg] Build system and regression test code and comment improvements:
better and more comments matching reality better; more reliability
w.r.t. passed CPPFLAGS; more of the MKSH_SMALL changes may be
overridden, all of them are now enumerated on the webpage; fixed
  some breakage; portability
- [tg] MKSH_NOPWNAM and MKSH_SMALL will now both disable the ~fac/
(homedir) expansion code wholly if defined, not just getpwnam(3)
  calls
- [tg] shells without job control no longer define the standard
  “stop” and “suspend” aliases (they are pointless anyway);
  regression tests know
- [tg] use system RCS ID macros on MirBSD if decent enough
- [tg] shut up bogus gcc 4.5/trunk warnings caused by
  over-optimisation
- [tg] restore ANSI C compilability broken in R38 (speed up, even)
- [tg] use memcpy(3) ipv strlcpy(3) if possible and safe and secure
  * Integrate czech translation update, Dêkuji; Closes: #534788
  * Switch to debhelper 5, by suggestion of Patrick “aptituz” Schönfeld
  * Add (commented out) framework for building with klibc, pending
bugfixes and enhancements I submitted to the Debian BTS; can be
customised for with/without MKSH_SMALL and dynamic/static linkage
  * debian/copyright: remove setmode.c remark, it is never used:
mksh-full has it provided by libbsd; mksh-diet, mksh-small, and
mksh-klibc have the mknod builtin disabled and do not need it;
strlcpy.c is provided by libbsd, dietlibc and klibc, so neither
mksh-full nor mksh-diet (nor mksh-klibc) need it, only mksh-small
in the glibc version (on platforms where dietlibc is unavailable)
  * debian/rules: Append -e to sub-make command

[Bug 355854] Re: Please upgrade to nexuiz 2.5.2

2009-10-08 Thread Hew McLachlan
As there is still no sign of a 2.5.2 package from Debian, and
FinalFreeze is one week away, it's most likely we will keep 2.4.2 for a
third release.

I recommend anyone playing Nexuiz on Karmic to upgrade to 2.5.2, as
there are an enormous number of changes and improvements, and this will
bring you in line with practically all public servers. You can either
use the upstream zip[1], or Michael's PPA[2].

such bugs are often caused by extension. you seem to have quite a few
enabled, so i am closing this based on the assumption its caused by one
of those. Please disable all in tools - addons until you find the
problematic extensions. if you have all disabled and still see this,
please reopen the bug. Also let us know what extension caused this, once
you spotted it. THanks!

[Bug 445592] Re: Transmission Ext4 / data loss?

2009-10-08 Thread Bryan Quigley
Would another solution be to use Persistent pre-allocation?

From wikipedia The ext4 filesystem allows for pre-allocation of on-disk
space for a file. The current methodology for this on most file systems
is to write the file full of 0s to reserve the space when the file is
created. This method would no longer be required for ext4; instead, a
new fallocate() system call was added to the Linux kernel for use by
filesystems, including ext4 and XFS, that have this capability. The
space allocated for files such as these would be guaranteed and would
likely be contiguous. This has applications for media streaming and
databases.

As my other understanding from the error message and the above, is that
it lost data because they were stored in different places. Then ext4
filecheck cleared them all, because they weren't properly recorded in
ext4s records. If all space is alloted ahead of time all data actually
written to disk will always be recoverable by transmission.

[Bug 55428] Re: Helper applications cannot be changed, even when asked to do so by Firefox.

2009-10-08 Thread quequotion
UPDATE

I upgraded to Swiftweasel 3.5.3 and the bug has become intermittent.
Once in a while it complains that various applications do not exist, but
later during the same browsing session the problem is gone.

I have seen discussion of this bug elsewhere as related to xulrunner,
which serves as an interface between firefox's mime handling and the
operating system's.

While it seems just about taken care of, it may not be fully possible to
squash this one on the firefox end.

[Bug 446038] Re: Remove from archive

2009-10-08 Thread Dave Walker
For clarification, the source package needs to be remove from the
archive, and the binary package will be built from source package
mythtv-themes on the next push. This bug should really be resolved
before the next mythtv-themes bump.

Re: [Bug 444945] Re: the porperty drivers of the nvidia 6200 don't work in ubuntu 9.10

2009-10-08 Thread Luke Yelavich
Which version of the nvidia drivers were you trying to install? I am
going to assume you were using the jockey driver manager utility. If you
could tell me the version of the drivers you tried to install, that
would go a long way in helping me work out where the problem is.

Thanks

[Bug 439868] Re: UEC images could be smaller

2009-10-08 Thread Matt Zimmerman
One of the nice things about the original script was that it didn't
require root (to mount filesystems etc.). Regarding the inodes
consideration, I *think* that growing the number of inodes works fine,
so this shouldn't be an issue if we provide a smallish image and use the
script to make it larger if needed.

Re: [Bug 159941] [NEW] fglrx driver does not work in RT kernel

2009-10-08 Thread Luke Yelavich
Could you please provide the exact error message you get when attempting
to load the fglrx module? You can most probably get this output from the
dmesg command. If you can attach it to this bug, it would go a long way
in helping work out the problem.
