Suddenly the latest pcp was gone on the interface of squeeze cntrl.
Rebooting the pi solved this.
Weird and perhaps unrelated but I thought I mention this.

Is there a way to manually use pcp-apmode.tcz to set up a wifi access
point on a Raspberry pi Zero.
I would love to use piCorePlayer in my jeep or with my old sony boombox
but will not have wifi.

Yes, I've run into that quirk too. Sorry I didn't think to mentioned
that in my previous post.
BTW, I really like the squeezelite launcher applet you wrote for the
Joggler, been thinking of adopting it for the macos jivelite package.

Thanks Ralphy - as I thought, files in /home/tc/.jivelite/userpath
effectively replace those in /opt/jivelite. But the detail that I was
missing is that both applet files ('Meta' and 'Applet')
