Thanks for all the replies.
It seems that I'd just installed the AlienBBC plugin to the wrong
directory. When I re-installed AlienBBC to /usr/share/slimserver (as
Gleam suggested) then it all sprang into life and I'm now happily
listening to Radio4
Thanks again guys

Hi all
I recently build myself a Debian Linux server from an old PC with the
intention of using it to run SlimServer. I managed to get Slimserver
(Version 6.5.1-11206) up and running very easily and I am now using it
to stream to my SqueezeBox.
Unfortunately, I'm having a lot of trouble getting
Start off by checking if installation looks OK.
1. Are there 3 RTSP entries in Server Settings/Filetypes ?
2. Are all the settings checked ?
3. If the above are OK - double check that you used the 6.5
installation of AlienBBC 1.06 and not the 6.2/6.3 version.

I'm assuming you installed slimserver from one of the debian packages.
If so, your base slimserver directory is /usr/share/slimserver, so you
should untar alienbbc in that directory. I did that, and it's working
like a charm for me.

Definitely check the version you installed. The link on the
installation instruction page is to an older version. I was pulling my
hair out trying to get things working on Ubuntu 6.10 this week and
someone pointed this out. Turns out I was indeed using the wrong
version of AlenBBC.
