Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Has anyone done an in-place SS upgrade from Ubuntu 7.04-7.10?
I did upgrade and had a SS and SC perfectly running, except my LAN and load times in my browsers was extremely slow. A lot of users are reporting on the Ubuntu forums, that they have the same issues. The main thread being http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=358893. This seems to be an issue with routers/modems not fully supporting IPv6. Disabling IPv6 support in 7.10 solves this for users that have tested it. I want to retest on a test machine to be sure, that I dont mess up my SC machine again. On top of this, 7.10 is more efficient at pushing restricted drivers on you, like the nVidia drivers. Unfortunately, these restricted drivers are not well maintained for legacy devices, so on my SC server which has a nVidia Vanta card, the graphics were messed up, removing the restricted drivers, solved this. But, as for me, I am back at 7.04 again, since I need a stable system to run my SC on. Im holding off for a few months, before I make the step. /Peter -- PeterDB PeterDB's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11341 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=39510 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/unix
[SlimDevices: Unix] Trouble with AlienBBC
Hi All, I'm hoping for some help getting AlienBBC working on my Ubuntu 6.06 install. I've looked at a couple of sets of instructions, but no joy so far. The system specs look like this: SlimServer Version: 6.5.4 - 12568 - Debian - EN - utf8 Server IP address: 192.168.1.240 Perl Version: 5.8.7 i486-linux-gnu-thread-multi MySQL Version: 4.1.15-Debian_1ubuntu5 I installed mplayer (from the Ubuntu multiverse repo), and made sure that mplayer.sh is executable. I extracted the tarball into /usr/share/slimserver, and changed the file perms so that the .pm files are executable, but I don't see the plugin in server settings/plugins. I seem to have an issue when starting/stopping slimserver, in that I'm seeing a Perl error - I've no idea if it's related to the plugin problem. /home/glenn/Cache/my.cnf: Permission denied at /usr/share/perl5/Slim/Utils/MySQLHelper.pm line 178. 2007-10-21 12:22:02.4036 Use of uninitialized value in sprintf at /usr/share/perl5/Slim/Utils/MySQLHelper.pm line 467. Can anyone help with things to check to find out where/how I messed up? Many thanks, Glenn. -- GlennBooth GlennBooth's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1008 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=39516 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/unix

In other word, it will sit in the corner running SlimServer and not be messed with too often). I'm not sure I'm understanding you. I use my debian box exactly as an appliance. I never touch it. But I use the standard distro, kernel on up. Unless your box is seriously under powered, why bother?
