Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Need Help getting LMS to run on Ubuntu on Pi 4
I only recently came back to this. Following Ronnie's instructions (thank you for that Ronnie) I got a little further but still no joy. The results I got were different. Whether this is because I'm still using Ubuntu 20.10 or because when I went to install LMS 8.2 it was a different revision, I don't know. As the results were different I decided to remove LMS and start from scratch. But I guess that removing LMS does not remove the account etc. as the new install did not create a new account as shown in Ronnie's install. I am further along in that I can connect to LMS from a browser but then I get stuck at the mysqueezebox login prompt. It seems to be trying to run a wizard but entering my login details does nothing. For some reason mysqueezebox.com appeared to think my password was wrong and it took a number of password reset requests before I got a new password. I can login to mysqueezebox.com from another browser window so clearly the new password is working. But still no joy. Does this mean I need a different account and password for each server? I find it very strange that I need to enter a mysqueezebox.com login before it will run a local wizard. What is the point of that? Anyone got any idea as to what I do now and how I debug this? Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Need Help getting LMS to run on Ubuntu on Pi 4
I'll have to bow out and leave it to the man in the van. I've tried installing a bunch of perl modules but so far without luck but at least it got my memory working. My installations of LMS 8.1.1 and their results: Ubuntu server 20.04 and 18.04 on intel - LMS and local player plugin works. Raspberry PI OS (current...) - LMS works, can not get local player to output audio, works if I manually start the bin. Ubuntu server 20.04 and 18.04 on raspberry - can not get LMS to work. I don't have the PI OS install any more but the ubuntus run perl 5.26.1 or 5.30. It is probably related to perl somehow but I don't know enough about it to tell. Sorry, hope you get it working! v2k's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=71576 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114477 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

It was downloaded by the Raspberry Pi imager software so I can't provide a link. It is running fine. In fact I am impressed with how well it runs on the Pi which is a Pi 4 with 8GB. I tried the LTS version which is what I really wanted but that would not boot from the SSD. I don't know why but I guess it is just not as up to date as 20.10. MiniDLNA was also a dream to install. My only problem is getting LMS to install. I have followed all the instructions I have found on the Internet and done an uninstall between each attempt. With all of the instructions I have followed I end up with the same result. LMS appears to be installed but dies as soon as it is started. I thought the most likely issue was the version of Perl and I'm sure I'm missing some Perl libraries. I could not find which version of Perl LMS 8.1.1 wants? I updated Perl to the latest version and tried again but it still failed I've been running LMS 8.1.1 on Windows for a while and never had an issue so I don't have a clue how to work out why it is failing on Ubuntu. I went to the link and didn't find anything about LMS and Ubuntu is working fine. What was I missing? I got LMS from the standard LMS download site. I have read the link you posted now but I am still looking for a definitive guide to installing LMS on Ubuntu. Everything I find is so confusing and I've removed everything a number of times and started again, without success. One of the most confusing things is that all the instructions talk about Logitechmediaserver and Squeezebox server. That makes it very difficult to know what to search for. It is not clear to me whether the postings I find on the Internet are referring to the latest versions or old versions. I'm sure I am missing some Perl libraries but which? Why are they not installed as part of LMS? One poster on the Internet I've followed said that he got everything to work except for a firewall issue. I disabled the firewall to ensure it wasn't that. Still no joy. So, I am completely lost! I assume LMS has a way of posting more debug information to tell me why it keeps dying, but I don't know how to get that info? Not sure why a fresh install of Ubuntu followed by all updates had a older version but so be it. However, it still doesn't work. What libraries do I need to install. The only errors I am getting in the log is that the server died and is restarting. That is just continuous. Is there somewhere else I should be looking? It took me a while to figure out what was going on but the copying of files from my SSD backup from Windows to the Ubuntu SSD would only copy some files. I'm not sure of all the issues but I think the & in a folder name was causing some of the problems. I got no copy errors, but the file copying just stopped. Bulk Rename Utility is the most wonderful software for sorting such things out. I just did this but still can't remember much :) My issue was that LMS was seen as running but I couldn't connect to it. It turned out that a bunch of perl libraries was missing. If you stop the service (sudo service logitechmediaserver stop) and then run it manually (squeezeboxserver) it ought to tell you what's missing. How did you have to change the filenames? As far as I know Linux filenames are quite forgiving. v2k's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=71576 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114477 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

There must be more information in the log than just "Logitech Media Server died". Likely a perl or perl library issue. Make sure you have installed "libio-socket-ssl-perl" at a minimum. What version of ubuntu, and what perl version is it using (perl -v) ? piCorePlayer a small player for the Raspberry Pi in RAM.
