Position: Database Analyst
Location: Kansas City, MO
Contract: Long Term


Job Description:

Description of Work

Functions:  All required services are to be provided by the contractor and
will comply with applicable standards, policies, and procedures.  The
following category of services includes but is not limited to:

- Database/Software administration services
- Database/Software design and development
- Database/Software maintenance
- Database/Software performance evaluation and tuning

Additional tasks are as follows:

1) Database Administration

The our client COTR in consultation with the DB2/MySQL contractor assigned
to the project will tailor the following list of tasks to be part of the
assigned work:
*                     Installation of the database software
*                     Installation of corrective service for the database
software creation of the instance and/or database
*                     In conjunction with the customer, the determination
will be made to provide a partitioned/clustered database
*                     In conjunction with the customer, the determination
will be made as to types of data containers and the placement of those
containers
*                     Monitoring, analysis and tuning of the instance and/or
database for performance
*                     Granting and/or revoking of privileges required to
create and maintain the tables, indexes and other structures needed to store
the customer's data to a select group of personnel designated by the
customer
*                     Provide guidance and assistance to the customer as
needed in accordance with this document
*                     Provide the ability to recover the instance and/or
database in case of a disaster
*                     The normal duties described commonly for an
application DBA, such as creation of tables, indexes, etc.
*                     Binding of application software packages
*                     Monitoring, analysis and tuning of the application

Contractor must have recent (within the last 3 to 6 months) experience
providing hands-on DBA support, including experience in performing
installations, configurations, migrations, analysis, troubleshooting and
resolving technical issues, etc.  Contractor must have experience with data
integration, virtualization, and disaster recovery strategies.  Contractor
may be involved with providing assistance with integrating COTS software.

2) DB2 Administration - primary role

our client requests expertise in mid-range DB2 (currently supported
versions/releases) and experience using monitoring, diagnostics, and
analysis tools.   This person must function as a system DBA.  Experience as
an application developer/programmer or application DBA is beneficial.
Experience with mainframe DB2 support is also beneficial.  Tasks include,
but are not limited to:

*         working with metadata,
*          retrieving XML result sets,
*         analyzing query plans,
*         client connectivity,
*         configuring client/server network libraries,
*         using extended Stored Procedures,
*         managing indexes and locks,
*         troubleshooting deadlocks,
*         working with statistics,
*         scripting, creating alerts,
*         partitioned views,
*         optimization,
*         database design,
*         database install/upgrade/configuration,
*         schema management,
*         performance monitoring,
*         backup/recovery planning,
*         SQL tuning,
*         data replication,
*         database reorganization,
*         data loading,
*         database coding/maintenance.

Contractor must be certified as a DBA for DB2 LUW.  Certifications in the
following areas: z/OS, AIX, Linux, Solaris, and Windows would be beneficial.
Contractor should be experienced with Korn Shell, Perl, C
programming/scripts, and interfacing with Java application services. Should
be knowledgeable about IBM Tivoli Storage Manager and Symantec Veritas
Netbackup; Must have experience executing native DB2 commands and utilizing
GUI.

DB2 and related products/tools to be supported include, but not limited to:
*         DB2 current versions and releases
*         HADR - High Availability Disaster Recovery
*         Utilities & Tools for LUW - commands/utilities used by our client
*         PD/PSI - Problem Determination/Problem Source Identification
*         DART  - Database Analysis Reporting Tool
*         System monitor
*         Snapshot


3) MySQL Administration - secondary role

The contractor shall perform the following tasks:

*         Installation of the MySQL  software
*         In conjunction with the customer, the determination will be made
to provide a clustered and/or replicated database
*         In conjunction with the customer, the determination will be made
as to types of data containers and the placement of those containers
*         Granting and/or revoking of privileges required to create and
maintain the tables, indexes and other structures needed to store the
customer's data to a select group of personnel designated by the customer
*         Provide guidance and assistance to the customer as needed in
accordance with this document
*         Provide the ability to recover the instance and/or database in
case of a disaster
*         The normal duties described commonly for an application DBA, such
as creation of tables, indexes, etc.
*         Binding of application software packages
*         Monitoring, analysis and tuning of the application
*         Installation of corrective service for the database software
creation of the instance and/or database
*         Monitoring, analysis and tuning of MySQL instances for performance
*         Provide guidance and assistance to the customer as needed in
accordance with this document

MySQL DBA certification would be beneficial.  Contractor should be
experienced with Korn Shell, Perl, C programming/scripts, and interfacing
with Java application services.  Experience with standard MySQL commands is
required.  Experience with memcache would be beneficial.

4) Other Requirements

The contractor shall provide a means of contacting the contractor's employee
by cell phone/ pager/blackberry outside of normal work hours.  After the
contractor's employee is contacted, attempts will be made to resolve the
issue/problem over the phone.  If the issue cannot be resolved over the
phone, then the contractor's employee must make a reasonable effort to
arrive on-site to assist in problem resolution.  In addition, the contract
employee must possess the capability to remotely access tour client
web-enabled CITRIX server and Juniper server, which requires (at a minimum)
internet access and a desktop/laptop computer.
