*Job Posting Title*  *    :*          *    Sr. DB2 DBA*

*Top 3 must haves:*
- 6+ years of hands on experience in DB2 Database Administration on Unix.
(Preferably AIX)
- 4+ years for experience writing complex stored procedures, functions, and
triggers in DB2
- Good working knowledge of scripting languages (bash, ksh, perl, etc.)

The Sr. DB2 DBA will assume responsibility in Mounds View for all SAP
related DB2 databases as a member of the DB2 DBA team. This role will work
closely with SAP Basis / DB2 Leads to ensure proper support,
troubleshooting, successful availability, and performance of DB2 databases
in the SAP landscape.

*Responsibilities:*
• Responsible for developing and maintaining the database standards,
conventions, best practices and technical details for SOPs/ Work
Instructions and ensure are followed to maintain a viable system.
• Monitor storage capacity of the systems - database growth
• Staying abreast of the most current release of DB2 LUW (V9.7, V10.2, and
V10.5) including compatibility issues with operating systems, third party
software and utilities
• Support of daily operations including job monitoring and troubleshooting
of the 24x7 SAP/DB2 databases
• Perform database maintenance tasks - Backup, restore, roll forward
recovery, reorgs, runstats, compression activities
• Keeping the database up to date in technology, on patches and supporting
the roll-out of new versions & features
• Assist in developing solutions to complex problems with ingenuity and
innovation while ensuring solutions are consistent with organizational
objectives
• Consult and review SQL code, perform analysis and provide recommendations
• Monitor, troubleshoot and tune database environments.
• Work with application development teams and assist with problem
resolution
• Understand policies, standards, and guidelines regarding databases,
database development and management to comply with HIPAA, SOX, Corporate
audit requirements and other regulations.
• Participate in projects & work with project management, project and
infrastructure teams to confirm scope, resource plan, and technical tasks
• Work with auditors and regulators to ensure database systems are
compliant with all regulations.
• Capacity planning for all the database systems.
• Identify opportunities of process improvement & automation and implement
solutions to optimize the system, resource utilization for maximum
performance.
• Execute upon key DB2 team initiatives and provide technical support as
needed for upgrades, installations, refreshes, proofs of concept, backups,
disaster recovery, capacity planning and other complex projects as needed
• Engage vendor support/technical staff to assess solution options and to
analyze and resolve or escalate issues.
• Able to work independently as well as cooperatively across teams

*Basic Qualifications:*
• Demonstrated ability to administer high performance, highly available
business critical DB2 for LUW databases.
• Excellent communication, documentation and presentation skills
• Excellent performance tuning and troubleshooting skills such as database
tuning, SQL tuning. Ideal candidate will be comfortable with Cost Based
optimizer and have solid experience with SQL tuning, performance
diagnostics and tuning in DB2 for LUW.
• Ability to quickly identify problems, collaborate with other teams if
necessary to resolve them quickly.
• Experience in opening OSS Messages/PMRs with SAP/IBM and be able to see
them to resolution of the issue/problem.
• Must have good knowledge and experience with Backup and Recovery
procedures in both DB2.
• Working knowledge of scripting languages (bash, ksh, perl, sql, plsql
etc.)
• Availability to provide after-hours / weekend support as needed.
• Good working knowledge of UNIX, Linux, storage devices and networking is
a must.
• Familiarity with EMC Storage technology (Clone and Snapshots) and
TSM/Netbackup.
• Good working knowledge of HADR in DB2 is desired.

*Specialized Knowledge Required:*
• 6+ years of hands on experience in DB2 Database Administration on UNIX
(Preferably AIX)
• 4+ years of experience writing complex stored procedures, functions and
triggers in DB2.
• Good working knowledge of scripting languages (bash, ksh, perl, etc)
• Should have good working knowledge and experience in writing sql scripts,
triggers, functions and procedures
• Should have good working knowledge and experience in writing UNIX shell
scripts to automate the repeatable DBA tasks and for creating/setting up
jobs in cron/Tivoli Work Scheduler.

*Desired / Preferred Qualifications:*
• Advanced degree in Computer Science or business related discipline
• Vendor Certification
• Complete understanding and application of principles, concepts,
practices, and standards related to the DB2 (LUW) RDBMS
• Full knowledge of industry best practices in the areas of database design
and support
• Experience supporting DB2 databases on UNIX preferably on AIX for SAP.
• Excellent working knowledge and hands on experience in UNIX.
• Competent in O/S scripting and how the database interacts with O/S
• Experience working in the Medical Device Industry or other regulated
industry
• Demonstrated capability working with SAP tools including Solution Manager
• Demonstrated ability for setting, and executing toward, strategic
direction across areas of responsibility.
• Ability to develop standard procedures and practices relating to
databases and database management
• Analytical problem solving skills
• Communication skills consistent with constant customer contact and
ability to understand customer requirements
• Ability to explain complex technical solutions to non-technical resources
• Collaboration skills
• Data Modeling, relational modeling and physical database design
