Actually it was even easier than that… just sorting the parsed variants by
length before adding to the completions array means they are in a much more
sensible way.

We have discussed this a bit internally. I did a few things to try and make
sure that the completions palette doesn’t get in your way. One is hiding in
certain contexts like on mouseMove. Another was this arrow key behavior… but I
think maybe I erred here. It’s feasible it’s a legacy from early versions where
I had completions being presented as a result of changing the selection and
that could have been really frustrating if you were wanting to arrowKey down
through your script!

Yes there’s certainly some tweaks to be made on that front. There are a couple
of reports here:

http://quality.livecode.com/show_bug.cgi?id=20367

This was mainly messages we were considering here and the plan is currently to
have a list of messages that are higher priority. That’s quite different to
what you are suggesting.

For your idea it may be quite simple to add collect all the variants of a
command and give them a priority weighting based on their length (shorter =
higher priority)

http://quality.livecode.com/show_bug.cgi?id=20370

This idea of grouping variants if there are a lot and having a way to expose
them should also help here

Re: [ANN] Release 8.2.0 DP-1

2017-09-13 Thread Brian Milby via use-livecode
For the autocomplete feature, would discussion be better in a thread here
or in bugzilla? Some things that I'm looking at could just be considered
developer preferences vice actual bugs. Here are a few examples:

- there is no indication that you are at the end of a list so the down
arrow will just roll you to the next line
- same for top of list (not really an issue when it first appears, but if
going back up it could be)

- the ordering of syntax seems a little off (look at answer for example, I
would think that "answer prompt" would be first and "answer prompt with
button1" would come before "answer prompt with button1 or buttons"). The
idea is to include required terms first and insert the optional terms in a
similar way (so the optional term without the nested one comes before the
one including the nested optional term).

- in other auto-complete editors (Atom), typing the closing character will
skip over it if it is the next character instead of adding another set. So
when you type " and "" gets inserted. If you then type a word followed by
a " you would end up outside of the quoted word instead of with the
insertion point inside a nested quote. ["test"| vice "test"|"" where | is
the insertion point]. Similar situation for []. Often it would be easier
to just type the closing character than to reach for the mouse or use an
arrow key to skip.

Thanks,
Brian

RE: Converting iOS app build to .ipa file (latest iTunes update stops you doing this)

2017-09-13 Thread Ralph DiMola via use-livecode
Terry,

Open up the "devices" window in Xcode and you will see all the iOS devices
connected via USB. You can drag in .app files and also add/delete using the "+"
and "-" symbols.

You can also create a .ipa by putting the .app into a Payload folder and
zipping it up and renaming it like you said.

Upgrading OpenSSL in 6.7.11

2017-09-13 Thread David Beck via use-livecode
Hello,

For one of our applications we are still running LiveCode v6.7.11, and have
come across an issue hitting an API that only supports TLS 1.2 and later.
It appears that the version of OpenSSL / revsecurity that is being
distributed with v6.7.11 does not support TLS version 1.2. Upgrading to
LiveCode v8.1.6 solves the issue, however, there are some upgrade related
"bumps" that we will need some time to work through, so it will take some
time to resolve this issue through moving to LC8.

Does anybody know how we might obtain / build a version of revsecurity that
works with 6.7.11 with the most recent version of OpenSSL?

Thank you in advance for any help!

Converting iOS app build to .ipa file (latest iTunes update stops you doing this)

2017-09-13 Thread Terry Judd via use-livecode
I’ve always just created a .ipa file from my LC iOS app builds by dragging them
into iTunes and then back out again. Now Apple has gone and removed apps from
the latest version of iTunes (which appears to have automatically updated on my
Mac) and I’m left without a way to do this. Are there any easy alternatives?

For example will putting the app in a folder called ‘Payload’, zipping it and
renaming it as a .ipa file work or is there some extra stuff than happens as
part of the .app to .ipa conversion?

And on a related note. Now that iTunes is out of the picture, are there any
other simple tools that I can use to move apps onto an off a number of devices?
I have a set of about 50 iPads that I build apps for but I’ve always just
managed these using iTunes as most of the dedicated apps like Configurator are
overkill for what I need to do.

Rick, please post the bug report URL here so we can follow along.

I appreciate the intention of auto-complete, and can see how it may be
useful for writing a new line, but when editing an existing line it
keeps adds closing quotes and closing brackets where I already have them
further on in the line, costing me significant time to clean up.

I may resurrect my old custom script editor plugin in the meantime so I

The Mac version that is 1.03 GB is the .app bundle (which is essentially a

 Getting the Release
 ===
You can get the release at https://downloads.livecode.com/livecode/ or
 via
 the automatic updater.

 Release Contents

In LiveCode 8.2.0 DP-1, we have introduced a new Edition: "Community
 Plus".
In short, Community Plus is just like Community, plus:

 - Autocomplete feature in Script Editor
 - Ability to use commercial addons from the LiveCode Extension store
 inside
 your open source application
 - Ability to submit free non-commercial apps to the iOS App Store.

For more details about Community Plus, see this page:
 https://livecode.com/products/community-plus-edition/

For more details on the Autocomplete feature, read this blogpost:
 https://livecode.com/new-autocomplete-live-errors-in-livecode-8-2

 Moreover, in LiveCode 8.2.0 DP-1:

 - Several bugs have been fixed.
 - The Spinner Widget has been back ported
 - The Script Editor now shows "live" errors as you type your code.

The full release notes are available from:
 http://downloads.livecode.com/livecode/8_2_0/LiveCodeNotes-8
 _2_0_dp_1.pdf

 Notes:

 1. Indy and Business Editions include *autocomplete pro*, which extends
 autocomplete with the following features:

 - Completions generated dynamically by introspecting the object being
 edited and its message path
 - An Autocomplete Snippet Manager dialog is accessible from the script
editor menubar to manage a custom set of completions.

 2. You might experience some problems with autocomplete and window
 layering
in some *unsupported* Linux distros (e.g. XUbuntu, Mint)

 Feedback

Please report any bugs encountered on our BugZilla at

people that want to use a *stable* build to deploy their apps can use
8.1.x. (In fact we will probably release 8.1.8 before the 8.1.x series is

inside
your open source application

For more details about Community Plus, see this page:
https://livecode.com/products/community-plus-edition/

For more details on the Autocomplete feature, read this blogpost:

Moreover, in LiveCode 8.2.0 DP-1:

- Several bugs have been fixed.
- The Spinner Widget has been back ported
- The Script Editor now shows "live" errors as you type your code.

The full release notes are available from:
http://downloads.livecode.com/livecode/8_2_0/LiveCodeNotes-8_2_0_dp_1.pdf

autocomplete with the following features:

- Completions generated dynamically by introspecting the object being
edited and its message path
- An Autocomplete Snippet Manager dialog is accessible from the script
editor menubar to manage a custom set of completions.

2. You might experience some problems with autocomplete and window

Re: [ANN] Release 8.2.0 DP-1

2017-09-13 Thread Richmond Mathewson via use-livecode
Oddly enough the difference between the Macintosh Community version and
the Linux 64-bit Community version is vast.

Macintosh Community version: 1.03 GB

Linux 64-bit Community version: 277 MB

Why does this make me think that the Linux version may be missing things?

Richmond.

will too. Good move by Livecode Inc.

Need a MergAV for dummies guide

2017-09-13 Thread pink via use-livecode
I am trying to get MergAV to work in a mobile app, but so far I haven't had
much luck...

Here's some of what I've tried:

on openStack
if the environment = "mobile" then mergAVRequestMediaAccess
"video"
  mergAVCamCreate
end openStack

command startRecordingVideo
set the currentlyRecording of this stack to true
  mergAVCamCreate
mergAVCamSet "rect",the rect of grc "cam"
  mergAVCamSet "visible","true"
  put the seconds into tTitle
  put "av" before tTitle
  put ".mov" after tTitle
  mergAVCamStartRecording (specialFolderPath("documents") &"/" &
tTitle )
end startRecordingVideo

When I load it onto my iPhone I get:
634,0,0 control not created yet, 573,49,1 mergAVCamStartRecording

Anyone know what I've done wrong?

Re: Android Audio Playback & Recording

2017-09-13 Thread Peter Reid via use-livecode
Hi Al

Thanks for the link, I had seen it previously but didn't understand how I could
incorporate it into my app! I've no experience with code-wrapping or creating
lcb widgets, so I can't see how I proceed with what looks like a solution!!
Any help, in simple steps, gratefully received.

Also, thanks for the links regarding the hard bit of comparing sounds. I've
been thinking of doing this a different way, if possible - voice-to-text and
then compare the text with the target text using some fuzzy matching. This
could be another hard thing of course??

By the way (thanks BR) I did get the mobilePlaySoundOnChannel to work after
fixing some code stupidity on my part. So I can play the clips OK.

New "Make Docset" stack uploaded

2017-09-13 Thread James Hale via use-livecode
Uploaded a new revision to "Make DocSet"

Any users should download the new version and remake your docset.
Please remember to delete the old docset from the list of docsets in the
preferences of Dash before loading the new one.

Version 1.2

Note: Currently Dash does not recognise "glossary" nor "Control Structure" as
an entry type.
These entries are currently shown under the "Variables" entry in Dash.
I have written to ask these types be included.

• Bug fix on dictionary links appearing in description texts.

• Adjusted filenaming convention to correctly handle $ & [ and other characters
that require encoding but that does not interfere with hrefs.

• Special case for <>,<,>,<=,>= in sqlite index

• Modified interface, added release notes, moved plist and css to own pages

• Add ability to set location of docset

• Now deletes any previous docsets

* Progress indication.

• Really correctly corrected embarassing typo!
