I figured out the problem. Even though I set the backgroundColor of the stack 
to empty, I also needed to set the backgroundColor of my stub application to 
empty too.

LC 9.6.2RC fix for tabs still a problem for Big Sur

My application is a standalone stub that opens a stack.

If I open the stack in the IDE, the tabs look correct. If my application opens 
the stack, the tabs have the artifact that the selected tab is white text on a 
white background. Strange.

If I create a standalone with tabs they look correct in both the IDE and the 
standalone.

I don’t know what would be different when my application opens the stack.

Mac inclusions. Is there one for file changed?

I’m looking to see if there is an option to mark the traffic light icon that a 
file hasn’t needs to be saved?

I have a feeling it exists but I don’t see how to find out.

Windows shell command with path

I want to issue a command line prompt to a program in “Program Files 
(x86)\AppFolder\MyApp”.

When I go to the command line my path is already “C:\Windows\System32> which is 
too deep. I have to cd .. twice to get to Program Files (x86)\etc.

If I issue the shell command to “C:\Program Files (x86)\etc. it can’t find the 
path.

How can I issue the shell command to an application in the Program Files 
(x86)\AppFolder\MyApp”?

Publishing Mac Apps

If I want to distribute Mac apps should I get a $99 Apple Developer account and 
Notarize them? I don’t anticipate putting apps in the Apple App Store?

Are there other considerations or options to avoid problems as Apple continues 
to enforce more restrictions?

This seems to be a bug in 9.6.1 for MacOS. Add a case statement for just 
“About”. The case statement for “About MyApp” won’t be recognized.

worked in previous versions. I don’t see anything wrong.

The symptoms on the Mac is that the About item is in the correct place but the 
script is not run when selected.

LiveCode 9.6.1 Indy.

Not sure why the script isn’t run.

Any suggestions?

Once I close and remove from memory my template stack, I still see File 
Selector in the Project Browser but nowhere else in the IDE so I’m not sure how 
to remove it.

Even though I don’t create a standalone, the checkboxes for Macintosh, Windows, 
and Linux were checked. I unchecked the boxes and saved the template stack but 
the File Selector stack still gets opened when I open my template stack even 
after I quit and restart LiveCode.

I figure something must be opening it or referencing it in my template stack 
but I can’t find it.

Regarding the original aim of this email thread…I’ve isolated the problem to 
encryption/decryption as done in early versions of LiveCode such as 4.6 and 
later version such as 9.6. Trying to decrypt files saved in early versions of 
LiveCode with a modern version of LiveCode fails and vice versa.

I made a support ticket to LiveCode support on this.

Compress/Decompress Inclustion?

In InfoWallet I store attachments as encrypted and compressed files on disk.

When I build InfoWallet in LiveCode 9.6.1 and attempt to decompress and decrypt 
the file, I get an error that the data is not compressed. The file is 
definitely compressed.

I’m manually selecting inclusions. Do I need to add compress and decompress as 
an Inclusion? If so, which Inclusion would it be?

Here is the error:

vCard save file format binfile or file?

If I just use URL file to save vCard files I will get different results on 
Windows vs Macintosh regarding CRLF. VCard files are text files.

The vCard standard requires CRLF as the line format regardless of which 
platform the data is being written in. LiveCode using the URL file command will 
write the file differently on Windows compared to Mac or Linux.

I can build the variable for the vCard and use CRLF instead of RETURN for line 
endings.

If I write the file using URL binfile format will it still be a text file that 
other programs can read?

The LiveCode Dictionary states:
When generating a messageDigest for a string, it is a good idea to encode it to 
binary data using the textEncode <> function. Otherwise, the messageDigest 
could be different, depending on the platform <> on which your application is 
running.

However, I tried their example in the Dictionary but it still gives different 
values on Macintosh vs. Windows:
put textEncode("My very large data", "UTF-8") into tOriginal
put messageDigest(tOriginal, "SHA3-256") into tChecksum

Why would the platform calculate the hashes differently?
Why did older versions of LiveCode calculate it the same?

The default build choice in 9.5.1 is Windows 32bit not x86-64bit.

Since the x86-64bit is not listed as experimental is there any reason why I 
shouldn’t build for it instead of the default 32bit?

What file(s) do I need to add?

When I try adding to Stack Properties it won’t let me select macOStools.lcb.

I can add other files in the standalone builder I still don’t see 
macOStools.lcb in the Inclusions and it doesn’t hide.

I think I need more complete instructions.

Sorry. That should read the newest version of LiveCode that behaves the way I 
want is 5.5.5. I haven’t had to rebuild this application until now due to Apple 
removing support for 32bit apps.

the frontmost. I want the target application (like a web browser page) that was 
underneath my app to now have focus.

Authentication questions

LiveCode’s dictionary shows multiple authentication capabilities. However, I’m 
having trouble figuring out how to actually implement them working with our 
business phone system that uses CSTA authentication.

I think you guys are on to something. The LiveCode open dialog filter is a 
different issue than actually being able to open the file as a stack. Thanks.

For some reason my OpenStack handler in the Card script isn’t being triggered. 
This is causing a number of issues including failing to “start using…” some 
library stacks and the one I reported here.

I’m looking into that now.

the same file so I don’t think the OS is affecting this.

I’m just asking if there is a stack with the correct name and getting “false” 
as the answer if using LC 9.5.1.
If I ask for “file” and not “stack” then the result is “true”.

This behavior changed between version 7 (and earlier) and version 8 (and later).

When I am in LC version 7 or earlier and go File menu/Open Stack I am able to 
select my stack named “LicenseKey.IW” without specifying “All Files”.

When I am in LC version 8 or 9 on the same computer opening the same 
“LicenseKey.IW”, file it is grayed out on the Mac when Open Stack. On Windows 
the file is not visible until I select All Files.

My program is correctly setting the defaultFolder but is getting the same 
result of not recognizing the file as a LiveCode stack when I build using 
LiveCode version 9.5.1.

Any idea what might have changed between version 7 and 8 and how I can get the 
old behavior when I’m referencing the stack?

It is both the name of the stack and file name.

I’d really rather not have to rename the license key file name. It would be 
better to figure out how LiveCode could work like it used to.

LiveCode won't recognize my stack

Version 9.x of LiveCode doesn’t recognize stacks unless the file name ends with 
either .rev or .livecode. Previous versions (I don’t know when this changed) 
were able to.

I use a stack file as the Preferences file for InfoWallet but the file name is 
“LicenseKey.IW”. When I execute the following command to read custom properties 
in the stack it fails with an error. Type: Chunk: can't find stack

put the uDefaultWallet of stack "LicenseKey.IW" into vDefault


I can also see this when opening a stack from LiveCode. the LicenseKey.IW file 
is greyed out unless I look for All Files when then opens it correctly.

How can I open the stack file in LiveCode 9.5.1 without changing the name of 
the file?

Is there a command to display number of seconds as hrs:min:seconds?

I’m writing a countdown timer application and want to display the remaining 
time not as the number of seconds but in the format of HR:MIN:SEC left.

For example 75 seconds would display as “0:1:15”.
130 seconds would display as “0:2:10”.

I know how to do the math to figure it out but I’m wondering if there is a 
built in function to do this.

Convert wants to deal with actual time so I would get something like “0:1:15 
PM”.

The existing application can do 2 things.
It can send command line parameters
It can send a formatted URL

I can either catch the command line parameters - which is what I’ve been asking 
for or write the application to be a server responding to a URL sent to 
localhost.

The latter seems overly complicated and could introduce latency which I don’t 
want.

Doing this on startup works perfectly but I don’t see how my app can get 
notification any other way while it is running.

I’ve tried openCard, preOpenCard, openStack, preOpenStack, and resumeStack but 
no luck.

GetOpt looks exactly like what I want.

The docs specify on startup is only sent when the application is opened. This 
won’t work for me as I want to catch command line parameters ongoing while my 
application stays open.

What would the syntax be if I want to catch 3 items some of which could contain 
multiple words with a space between them?

That is unfortunate. The 3rd party middleware tool I’m using to send command 
line parameters doesn’t support AppleEvents. It only supports sending command 
line parameters.

Please consider adding a feature that will let me catch the command line 
parameters for Mac apps like relaunch does for Windows.

I noticed the following command line reference in the 9.0.4 rc 1 release notes. 
Isn’t this the kind of thing I’m asking for? If so, how does it work?

Chrome on Macintosh OS. For example Firefox prompts the user to choose which 
application to send it to.

How can I capture the link details “tel:+1-303-449-7111 ” 
as the input for my application?

Oh never mind. I was mistaken that it worked in the first “if statement”.

I needed to make vNum a global variable and now it works.

It is the vNum variable itself that is empty in the if statement. If I put vNum 
the result is blank.
