Slightly OT - Liquid volume measurement (was Is there an issue with beep on IOS)

2021-08-08 Thread Robert Earp via use-livecode
David/Bill/et al, my challenge was accurately filling bottles of wine (draining
them never has been a problem !!). For a long time I tried to get LC to
communicate with external hardware and finally gave up when I found the joy of
the Arduino, and more recently the Raspberry Pie Pico. For liquid volume
measurement take a look at this,
https://www.electroschematics.com/working-with-water-flow-sensors-arduino/

….and it’s only an intro on what wonders you can use these devices for. They
are very inexpensive and the Arduino IDE is very simple. If you go the Pico
route you can also use Python.

best, Bob...

Re: Reading LC List Digests

Thanks for the great advice Jacqueline, it was the old Courier that I had
tried. I’ve now changed to Helvetica Neu and we’ll see how that fairs.

I think we’ve had this discussion before Roger, all great nginears can’t spell,
especially in Greek, which is why spell checkers were invented ;-)

BTW, you’ve reminded me to add a spell checker to the list of features a
digest-o-matic should have….

Reading LC List Digests

2021-11-19 Thread Robert Earp via use-livecode
Does anybody know a a great interface for digests from the LC lists ?

I have two problems...

Ever since I subscribed to the two LC lists many years ago when they first
started I set my subscription options to send digests so that I would not have
oodles of separate eMails sent to me, one each time somebody posted something.
To some extent digests works OK as at the top of the digest you get the
“Today’s Topics” summary and each message/post numbered. I also get to see who
has posted what, which I suspect like you, I use as a filter. If I see
something of interest in the Today’s Topics (although the topic can often be
misleading) from somebody I trust, I scroll down the digest until I get to the
actual post.

Frankly, the scrolling is a pain especially as posts are not grouped by topic,
they are chronologically grouped, plus people often repeat the whole thread in
their reply which makes scrolling arduous.

The second problem I have is that frequently some of the characters in a post
do not show in Apple Mail (what I am using to view the digests) as a the
correct/intended/valid character. I often see question marks and sometimes
other characters in place of what somebody has posted. ex. “…..pop-up that
says ?The ?C++filt? command…..” Of course, it is a guessing game as to what
character the “?” is replacing.

Given that the lists are LC centric, I would have hoped somebody would have
come up with a better interface by now !!

Do you have a better way of keeping up with the lists or know of a stack or web
site that does ?

Many thanks, Bob...

Re: use-livecode Digest, Vol 219, Issue 1

2021-12-01 Thread Robert Earp via use-livecode
Sorry Jacqueline and Curry, I should have sent an acknowledgement of your
previous speedy response to my question.

Jacqueline and Bob, in Apple Mail I can only find an option for plain text when
composing mail, not receiving mail, but you can choose the font used to display
a message. I normally use Lucida Sans as its cross platform (from what I
understand), but I have tried many others such as Courier to no avail.
Regardless, I don’t think mail clients are designed to handle mail lists in an
intuitive manner, which is why I asked my original question looking for a
“great” GUI hopefully in LC ;-)

Thanks again and kind regards, Bob...
