Hi all,

Xcode 13.4 is already available but LC 9.67 and LC 10 dp3 only support Xcode

Did I miss something?

HTMLTEXT is a property of FIELDS, variables do not have this!

Localizing e.g. "Answer dialog" featuzre reques = hibernated?

2022-04-11 Thread Klaus major-k via use-livecode
Hi all,

some time ago I "feature requested" a possibility to localize e.g. the "Answer
Dialog":

Example:
Cancel = english, which is always displayed currently
Annuler = french
Abbrechen = german
All these are much longer words, so just setting the label of that button will
not suffice.
Bernd Niggeman provided a nifty solution for this inconvenience.

But why on earth has this been "Hibernated"?

Don't we all think that we should be able to localize all aspectcs of LC?
Not the whole world is speaking english, ladies and gentlemen!

Maybe you want to add a comment, thank you!

drawingSvgCompileIcon(pIconName) always BLACK

2022-04-06 Thread Klaus major-k via use-livecode
Hi all,

drawingSvgCompileIcon(pIconName) is really great,
but the resulting images are always black.

I can of course add a "color overlay" but when I use them as
"imagesource" it uses the original black images.

Any hints on how to add color to them when using them
as "imagesource" in a field without screenshotting them or
exporting them, add color in an image editing app and
reimport them as images?

Thanks for any hint!

launch file with app

2022-04-04 Thread Klaus major-k via use-livecode
Hi friends,

macOS 12.3, LC 9.6.7

I have e.g. a MP3 file and want to open it with "Quicktime Player.app":
...
## tPrompt contains a localized string, of course
answer file tPrompt with specialfolderpath("apps") with type "|app|"
put it into tApp
## I select QTPLayer.app
if the result = "cancel" then
exit to top
end if
## tDatei holds the complete path to the MP3
## tApp the path to QTPlayer.app
launch tDatei with tApp
put the result
...

It will open the MP3 with QTPlayer as desired BUT
it also opens the file with "iTunes/Music" additionally!?
And I don't want that! :-D

The result is EMPTY.

Bug or feature?
And can I avoid to also open the file with "Music"?

Thanks in advance!

Well, that is the point, the PITCH does NOT change, only the speed of the
playback,
and even you might to be able to hear that. :-D

No, don't think so. I released it as freeware, since I cannot afford an

keyup not always working

2022-03-24 Thread Klaus major-k via use-livecode
Hi,

I have this in the card script to provide some shortcuts to a player object:
--
on keyup tKey

   ## Have been bitten by this in the past :-D
if the selectedfield <> EMPTY then
  pass keyup
   end if
   switch tKey

  ## This ALWAYS works:
  case SPACE
set the paused of player 1 to NOT (the paused of player 1)
 check_time
 break

  ## This only works about one out of ten times?
  case "r"
set the currenttime of player 1 to 0
 check_time
 break
  default
 pass keyup
 break
   end switch
end keyup
---
So I added this as a workaround:
-
on keydown tKey
if the selectedfield <> EMPTY then
  pass keydown
   end if
   switch tKey

  ## This ALWAYS works!
  case "r"
set the currenttime of player 1 to 0
 check_time
 break
  default
 pass keydown
 break
   end switch
end keydown
--
Any idea why KEYUP does not work as exspected?

playrate & templateimage

2022-03-24 Thread Klaus major-k via use-livecode
Hi friends,

LC never ceases to surprise me and I love that!

1. In earlier versions setting the "playrate" of a player object to a different
value than 1
unfortunately also changed the PITCH of the sound/movie.

Today I was delighted to find out that this is not the case anymore!
PITCH does not change anymore when setting the PLAYRATE!
Thanks for the hint, Frans!

At least on a Mac. Is this also the case on Windows?

When did this happen?
And why didn't anybody tell me? :-D

2. The fact that we can also import/export snapshots from "the templateimage"
also suprised me a lot earlier this week.
A very handy feature, can make a lot of work unneccessary!

Same from "the templateplayer" does not work however, but does not throw
an error, just a small black image.

destroystack/destroywindow not working?

2022-03-21 Thread Klaus major-k via use-livecode
Hi all,

I have a stack with its destroystack/destroywindow
properties set to true.

When I close it and open another stack which has a
substack with ther same name as a substack of the
previous stack, I get this really annoying dialog:
"A stack with that name is already in memory..."

Shouldn't setting destroystack/destroywindow prevent this?
Or am I misunderstanding the meaning of these props?

Thanks for any insight!

LC 10 DP2, does it already support the current multimedia architecture on Windows?

the subject says it all.
Means do we still need to install e.g. the LIBAV codecs to

Or is this newer feature not yet implemented in DP2?

what Jim said! :-)

Thisw way the image becomes part of the stack as if "imported as control"
and you can paint on it or whatever, which is not possible with referenced
images, be they local or online.

why not just set the FILENAME of the image object to the file, either local or
online?
If the image is very big, you could group that single image object and add the
groups scrollbars.
Or just scale the image...

Windows EXE with browser about 160 MB?

2022-03-13 Thread Klaus major-k via use-livecode
Hi all,

I just created a Windows EXE from my stack and was shocked to see
that the resulting folder is 150 MB (32 bit) resp. 170 MB (64 bit)!?

I thought the Windows version of the browser widget would also "hook"
somehow into the system web engine like the Mac version does, but
obviously I was wrong... :-/

How can we make a good case for this to our customers? 8-)
I just want to display PDF files, not the whole internet.

Too bad LC does not sell the PDF widget separately...

you could also catch "on pastekey", but that will only work in a standalone,
the IDE will catch and not pass it.

OK, so I guess it will work on Win 10, if that is what you are running, right?

Is "Chrome" the web engine that LC is unsing in the "browser widget" on Windows?
Or do you create that browser with "revbrowseropen..."?

Did not find an bug report for this, so I will create one.

How to install XCode essentials only for LiveCode builds

2022-02-28 Thread Klaus major-k via use-livecode
Hi all,

Sean asked me to post this in a separate post. :-)

We do not have to install the complete (ca. 16 GB) Xcode package to create a
standalone with LC.
Just install the neccessary command line tools via the TERMINAL, enter:
xcode-select --install

And it will download all neccessary stuff.

I do not have Xcode installed just the neccessary command line tools via the

you can still create a standalone with LC without any certificate etc.!

> ...even though my app is for internal consumption only.

But your user(s) need to check -> Allow downloads from: Appstore and trusted
developers
In the macOS system settings -> Security

And after the they need to right-click your app and select "Open..." from the
context menu
and confirm once or twice that they really want to open that app.

After that they can doubleclick the app furthermore like the used to.

did you try to just change the suffix to -> .mp4 ?
However Windows should also accept .m4v

well, we cannot explicitely show a tooltip by script.
So "show the tooltup of me" will not work if it doesn't throw an error.

Problem in your script:
...
  set the tooltipdelay to 500
  ## from this point the tooltip will appear in 500 millisecs
  ## show the tooltip of me

  ## but this will disable the tooltip again much EARLIER than the 500
millisecs!
  ## LC is too fast for this :-)
set the tooltip delay to 0

Is this -> "Zweibelwähe" supposed to be a german dish with/from onions?
If yes, then it is called -> Zwiebelwähe (Zwiebel = onion in german)

"Zweibelwähe" is not a german word. :-)

add a "scale" option to the icongravity

2021-12-24 Thread Klaus major-k via use-livecode
Hi all,

I just added a feature request to the quality center.

For ICONGRAVITY we now have the "resoie" option,
which will scale the image unproportionally in the button,
which is erm. not the best option... 8-)

Maybe we can have a "scale" option, too, which will scale the
image in the button, but always proportionally!
That would make snse and remove some extra work!

Fell free to add a comment:

Have some nice holidays!

There is an entry in the dictionary -> record sound...
But that obviously relies on Quicktime.

Does that mean we do not have a way to record a sound with LC?

Like this:
Name of app.apk
Name of app.apk.idsig -> ca. 160 KB

Is this new? And what is it good for?

Android: Sign for development only

2021-12-03 Thread Klaus major-k via use-livecode
Hi friends,

does it have any limitations if I "Sign for development only"?

I mean, once the user defined the URL to the APK as "trustworthy"
in his security settings on his/her cellphone, he/she can download
and install the app without any problems and dialogs.

I tried with a "selfsigning certificate", worked fine, but the user gets
two warning dialogs:
1. Unknown developer...
2. Upldoad app for checking to GOOGLE...

Not as nice as an unsigned app, see above. :-)

Too bad you can ONLY pay the developer fee via a CREDITCARD!
Big fun, Google!

OK, any hints welcome!

oh, boy, yes, it is, how embarrassing... 8-)
No idea why I added this one?

Thank you very much!

P.S.
This works very fine:

With that certificate we can download an APK from any source and install it.
Only the security mechanism on the cellphone complains a bit but we can install
it anyway, cool! :-)

Best

no external files used with my stack!?

oh, my system:
macOS 10.14.6
LC 9.6.4

But this is obviously only with that namely stack.
Other stacks and newly created ones work fine.
Very strange...

Error when creating Android APK

2021-11-17 Thread Klaus major-k via use-livecode
Hi friends,

until yesterday I could create Android APK packages without problems.

Today I tried the lesson:

Worked fine so far, Android Studio worked for a couple of minutes and finally
finished, whatever it was doing.

Now when I save a very simple stack, that I already created a standalone from
earlier,
as standalone just for testing, I get this error:
---
There was an error saving the standalone application
could not find referenced asset to include -
/Users/klaus2/Desktop/de.lproj
---
Desktop? de.lproj? WTF? 8-)

I get this error when I select "Sign for development only" and also when
I select "Sign with my key" with the just created keystore file, so it is not
the keystore file. What am I missing?

Thanks in advance!

Best

Klaus
