Re: Close & remove from memory - Engine hang

2021-05-07 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Hello Curry,

What Tiemo described sounded like this issue
https://quality.livecode.com/show_bug.cgi?id=22896 - so if this is the
case, this bug is very specific to Big Sur, and it is fixed in LC 9.6.2
RC-1+.

Re: the systemversion shows wrong version # on Mac

2021-05-07 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Hello all,

Yeap, what Phil said:

function mySystemVersion
   get shell("sw_vers -productVersion")
   return it
end mySystemVersion

This will return 11.2.3 on a Mac running Big Sur 11.2.3

See https://quality.livecode.com/show_bug.cgi?id=22887

Re: notarizing DMG fails

Hello Tiemo,

When did you create these certificates? And what is your MacOS version, and
the Xcode version returned if you type "xcode-select -p" in a Terminal? I
am wondering if you need to install the new Apple Worldwide Developer
Relations Intermediate Certificate:

https://developer.apple.com/support/wwdr-intermediate-certificate/

You can find it here:

2021-05-03 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Hello Tiemo,

Sorry, it seems this is no longer the case (i.e. the email from Apple no
longer contains the notarization log URL).

In this case, you can use the command that is described in section
6.3. Check the status of analysis
of Matthias' lesson

(
https://lessons.livecode.com/m/4071/l/1122100-codesigning-and-notarizing-your-lc-standalone-for-distribution-outside-the-mac-appstore
).

The output of this command will contain a URL, which you can visit to see
the detailed logs.

Re: App fails to launch after code signing

2021-04-26 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Hello all,

Yes, indeed, it seems the culprit is the Xcode version. We build LiveCode
(and its externals) against the MacOSX 10.9 SDK, and set the minimum
deployment version, again, to MacOSX 10.9.

If you examine the externals using the "otool" command (otool -l
/path/to/your.dylib | grep -B 1 -A 3 LC_VERSION_MIN), which returns some
info about the SDKs used, it returns:

   -
   - in LC 9.6.1 (built with Xcode 11.x):

Load command 8
cmd LC_VERSION_MIN_MACOSX
cmdsize 16
version 10.9
sdk 10.9

   - but in LC 9.6.2 RC-X (built with Xcode 12.x):

Load command 8
cmd LC_VERSION_MIN_MACOSX
cmdsize 16
version 10.9
sdk n/a

The "sdk n/a" part creates the problem. This happens because when
signing with hardened runtime enabled (this is a requirement for the
the notarization), then the "library validation" check is enabled by
default, and for this to work all the components must be built with at
least the MacOSX 10.9 sdk. But the "sdk n/a" part means that it does
not know what version of the sdk was used, so the library validation
feature blocks the externals from being launched. This is why
disabling the library validation is a temporary workaround.

We are investigating this, so as you do not need to disable library
validation just for loading the LC externals.

Kind regards,

Panos

Re: iOS push notifications on Windows

2021-04-23 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Hello Andrew,

The lesson was written and tested on a Mac. But yeah, on Windows, when
trying to execute "sh /path/to/send.sh" either directly from the
terminal or via the shell command using LC, it is expected to throw an
error. You _might_ be able to work around this by changing the .sh
extension to .bat if you are on Windows, and instead of "sh
/path/to/send.sh" use "/path/to/send.bat".

If I find some time I'll experiment with this and update the lesson next
week, unless you get there first :)

Re: Changes to revsecurity.dylib in LC 9.6.2?

2021-04-21 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Also, I am not entirely sure but I think LC 9.6.2 rc-1 and above was built
with xcode 12.x, whereas 9.6.1 was built with Xcode 11.x. However, in both
cases LC was built against the macosx10.9 sdk.

Btw, the error msg and what you see looks similar to this report about
revzip https://quality.livecode.com/show_bug.cgi?id=23176, that's why I
suggested using entitlements when signing.

Panos

Are you using any entitlements when signing the standalone? Could you try
adding the one that disables library validation?

Kind regards,

[ANN] Release 9.6.2 RC-5

2021-04-14 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Dear list members,

We are pleased to announce the release of LiveCode 9.6.2 RC-5.

Getting the Release
===
You can get the release at https://downloads.livecode.com/livecode/ or via
the automatic updater.

Release Contents

LiveCode 9.6.2 RC-5 comes with 2 regression fixes:

- revUpdateGeometry in resizeStack handler causes a lock up when
maximizing/unmaximizing stack on Big Sur
- Script Editor not resizable - it is freezing up on Big Sur

For the full list of all fixes, updates and enhancements please see the
release notes:

http://downloads.livecode.com/livecode/9_6_2/LiveCodeNotes-9_6_2_rc_5.pdf

Known issues

- The Browser widget's native layer is not shown in some Linux distros with
Cinnamon window manager.
- The use of the Browser widget is not supported on Ubuntu 18.04 64 bit LTS
yet.

Required Software
=
To build iOS apps with LiveCode you must have the appropriate versions of
Xcode as follows:

  - macOS 10.13.4: Xcode 10.1 - LiveCode builds iOS apps using the iOS 12.1
SDK
  - macOS 10.14.4: Xcode 11.3.x - LiveCode builds iOS apps using the iOS
13.2 SDK
  - macOS 10.15.4+: Xcode 12.1.x - LiveCode builds iOS apps using the iOS
14.1 SDK

There is a full list of working LiveCode/macOS/Xcode combinations here:
https://livecode.com/docs/9-5-0/faq/faq/

Note: Whilst we endeavour to release updated versions of LiveCode
supporting the latest Xcode/iOS SDKs as quickly as possible; we strongly
recommend disabling automatic update of Xcode or downloading the specific
version of Xcode required directly from the Apple developer portal and
installing it separately.

Important: From the end of June 2020, Apple is only accepting apps built
using iOS13 SDKs. This means that, if you wish to submit apps to the
AppStore you will have to be running at least macOS 10.14 in order to be
able to install the necessary version of Xcode.

Re: [bug] strange memory leak in LC

2021-03-31 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Hello all,

After a brief Google search it seems there are some other apps that have a
similar memory leak after upgrading to Big Sur:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/252276774
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/252090206

The issue folks here (in this list) have mentioned does not seem to be
specific to M1 macs. It seems specific to Big Sur, since Andrew mentioned
he saw that in an iMac, and there are no M1 iMacs so far.

In the previous links people mention memory leaks in Safari. Do you also
see a memory leak with Safari? Also, did you use a stack with a browser
widget, when you experienced this issue? These 2 might be related.

Also, did you use (or did you leave open) the Dictionary stack? The
Dictionary does use a browser widget.

So far we are not able to reproduce the issue, because we either run Big
Sur on Parallels, and the VM is suspended when you choose "Sleep", or we
connect to a remote M1 Mac mini via VNC, and the connection will be lost if
we choose "Sleep" for this Mac.

Kind regards,
Panos

Android 9+ by default blocks non-https connections. You can workaround it
by tweaking the manifest file. There is a bug report (and a pull request)
about it. I am afk now so I cannot post the link.

Re: Android error messages are crap

2021-03-26 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Hello Andre,

Have you downloaded OpenJDK separately? I think it is bundled in Android
Studio.

The error sounds related to Java / JDK, so could it be the case you have
multiple Java installations in your machine, and LC is not picking the
right one?

What are the contents of /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/ ?

Also, what is the jdk path that is populated in the LC mobile prefs, when
you choose the sdk root folder?

Re: XCode 12.4 not working with LiveCode

2021-03-23 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Hello Andre,

Building with Xcode 12.4 is not supported yet - you need to download Xcode
12.1 if you are on MacOS Catalina+.

Support for Xcode 12.4 is coming in LC 9.6.3 RC-1

Kind regards,

Re: Apple Push Notifications update

2021-03-17 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Hello all,

You can find an updated lesson on how to send HTTP/2 based push
notifications on iOS:

https://lessons.livecode.com/m/4069/l/1380237-how-to-send-http-2-based-push-notifications-in-ios

Note that you do not need to do any changes in your app that *receives* push
notifications. The changes regarding the http2 API are only server-side,
i.e. on the way you *send* push notifications to your app.

Kind regards,
Panos

[ANN] Release 9.6.2 RC-3

2021-03-12 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Dear list members,

We are pleased to announce the release of LiveCode 9.6.2 RC-3.

Getting the Release
===
You can get the release at https://downloads.livecode.com/livecode/ or via
the automatic updater.

Release Contents

LiveCode 9.6.2 RC-3 comes with 6 regression fixes, including:

- Visual effects doesn't work on macOS Big Sur
- Cannot close "Ask Password" dialog as Sheet in modal stack
- mergLA not included in 9.6.2 RC 2
- PDF Widget broken on iOS device

For the full list of all fixes, updates and enhancements please see the
release notes:
http://downloads.livecode.com/livecode/9_6_2/LiveCodeNotes-9_6_2_rc_3.pdf

Feedback

Please report any bugs encountered on our quality center at
http://quality.livecode.com/

We have a forum available for discussing LiveCode Builder at

Re: Print to PDF and Big Sur

Thanks for the update, Marty. So it seems the revpdfprinter.dylib was not
signed, and Big Sur does not allow unsigned binaries to run, or sth like
this.

The "--deep" param ensures all the components in the bundle will be signed.

Re: Codesigning & notarizing

2021-02-04 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
@Marty

If you have not done it already, it might be worth adding entitlements to
the codesign.

https://lessons.livecode.com/m/4071/l/1293515-entitlements-for-signed-and-notarized-apps

I do not think it is the Xcode version that is the problem. I am on Mojave
as well, so I can do a quick test if you send me the standalone that
crashes. Also make sure you attach the stack to the bug report :)

Kind regards,
Panos

Re: LC Community Ask Password

2021-01-21 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Hello Bob,

I just did a quick test in LC 9.6.2 RC-2 and I cannot reproduce this bug. I
put this code in a button:

on mouseUp pButtonNumber
ask password "Please log in:" titled "Password Test"
end mouseUp

I also tried putting this button in a modal stack.

In both cases, I can type in the ask password dialog, and the OK and Cancel
buttons do respond.

Could you file a bug report and attach a sample stack that demonstrates the
problem, so as we fix it asap?

Also, what is your MacOS version? I tested on Mojave.

Kind regards,
Panos

Re: [ANN] Release 9.6.2 RC-2

2021-01-12 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Hello Andre,

The current x86_64 (i.e. Intel-based) build of LiveCode, as well as any
x86_64 standalones created by it, are expected to run seamlessly on M1
Macs, via "Rosetta" (i.e. the translation/compatibility layer that enables
a M1 Mac to run apps built for an Intel-based Mac). The M1 Mac will ask you
if you want to install Rosetta the first time you try to launch an app made
for Intel.

What is not supported though, yet, are native ARM LiveCode builds, that
will be able to create ARM standalones for M1 Macs. This is in our TODO
list, but I cannot provide an ETA for this.

Hope this helps :)

Cheers,
Panos

LiveCode 9.6.2 RC-2 comes with 5 regression fixes, including:

- Opening Color Picker from modal window no longer causes LC to freeze
- MacOS Big Sur: fixed display error when switching between card or showing
a group
- Fix long pause after closing modal dialog on macOS

For the full list of all fixes, updates and enhancements please see the
release notes:
http://downloads.livecode.com/livecode/9_6_2/LiveCodeNotes-9_6_2_rc_2.pdf

Re: LC & Mac M1 Chip

2021-01-08 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Hello all,

Just a clarification - the bug about dashes in menus in standalones on Big
Sur is:

https://quality.livecode.com/show_bug.cgi?id=23009

and not https://quality.livecode.com/show_bug.cgi?id=23013

BTW, could someone that has a M1 Mac confirm that in the LC 9.6.2 RC-1 IDE
there are no dashes in front of the menus - in other words that this bug is
fixed:
https://quality.livecode.com/show_bug.cgi?id=22955

Thank you!

Re: Rer: Decrypt problem on Windows

2020-12-14 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Hello Neville,

Could you try to textEncode the encrypted data before saving it in the
custom property, and then, in the other platform, textDecode it before
decrypting it?

i.e. to do something like:

encrypt myData using myCipher with password myPass
put it into tEncryptedData
put textEncode(tEncryptedData, "native") into the cCustomProp of stack "foo"
...
...

and then, to decrypt it in the other platform:

put textDecode(the cCustomProp of stack "foo", "native") into tEncryptedData
decrypt tEncryptedData using myCipher with password myPass
put it into myOriginalData

Kind regards,
Panos

Dear list members,

We are pleased to announce the release of LiveCode 9.6.2 RC-1.

You can get the release at https://downloads.livecode.com/livecode/ or via
the automatic updater.

LiveCode 9.6.2 RC-1 comes with more than 35 changes, including:

New Features
  - Support for the newly released MacOS Big Sur
  - Support for building with Xcode 12.1, using the iOS 14.1 SDK
  - New tsNet and mergExt builds, built with the iOS 14.1 SDK

Bug Fixes:
  - Fixed crash with mobilePickPhoto on Android 11
  - Fixed 'revIsSpeaking()' function on Windows
  - Faster deployment to iOS simulator
  - Several fixes related to modal dialogs on MacOS
  - Several dictionary fixes and documentation improvements

For the full list of all fixes, updates and enhancements please see the
release notes:
http://downloads.livecode.com/livecode/9_6_2/LiveCodeNotes-9_6_2_rc_1.pdf

Feedback

Please report any bugs encountered on our quality center at

Re: Script colorization not working

2020-11-18 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Hello Devin,

A rough guess is that she is on Big Sur. There is a known issue where
colorization is lost if the default font (Source Code Pro) is used. If this
is the case, she can try switching to a different font, and the issue will
be fixed.

Re: Big Sur bugs

@Paul
I tested on a VM too, but on Parallels, not on VirtualBox.

If Quicktime cannot open the video either, then it sounds like a VM issue.
It would be great if anyone running Big Sur natively could give some input.

Re: Big Sur bugs

2020-11-15 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Hello Paul,

Here are the bugs that have been discovered so far, either by LC users or
by us (LiveCode Ltd):

https://quality.livecode.com/buglist.cgi?regetlastlist=97748

The 2 serious ones have been addressed and are to be tested in our
pre-release build. There are another 2 cosmetic bugs, and one that seems to
affect only the new ARM Macs.

These bugfixes are expected to appear in the upcoming release of LC 9.6.2
RC-1.

Re: IOS Screen resizing /EXACT FIT not working as before

2020-11-03 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Hello Lagi,

In the iPhone 8 Plus device, could you check in Settings -> Display and
Brightness and then scroll down and in the "Display Zoom" section, does it
say "Standard" or "Zoomed" ?

If it says Zoomed, then the stack will scale as if it was on an iPhone 8.
Changing this to Standard will cause the stack to scale as before.

Re: How to resolve "unable to locate play service dependency base version 9.4.0"

2020-10-24 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
If you do not use Android Studio, but you have only downloaded and
installed the android sdk tools, then you just need to launch Android SDK
Manager and install the missing dependency.

The required dependency is the "Google Repository" package (in the "Extras"
folder), and NOT the "Google Play services" package as one would have
thought.

Hmm I think I have found something - I had checked for this before - but in
the wrong place.

@Matthias could you check if "Display Zoom" is enabled in your device?

This is in Settings -> Display and Brightness and then scroll down and in
the "Display Zoom" section, does it say "Standard" or "Zoomed" ?

Re: Help needed :)

2020-10-19 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Hello Matthias,

Thank you very much for testing. Hmm that's interesting. I forgot to
mention that the affected iPhones 8+ are running iOS 14.

The simulator we tested was running iOS 13.3. I am wondering if this is an
iOS 14 issue.

We are working on adding support for building with Xcode 12 / iOS 14 SDK,
so once this is ready, I'll test on the iOS 14 simulator.

In the meantime, if anyone has an iPhone 6+/7+/8+ running iOS < 14 and
would like to check what "the screenrect" returns, it would be great :)

Kind regards,
Panos

Help needed :)

2020-10-19 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Hello folks,

I LC user (or in fact a couple of this user's clients) are experiencing a
strange issue which we cannot reproduce, as we do not have the specific
hardware.

Long story short, "the screenrect" function returns for them incorrect
values on an iPhone 8 Plus physical device. We have tested in the iPhone 8
Plus simulator and it world as expected for us.

More specifically, the screenrect() returns 0,0,375,667 (which is the
screenrect of iPhone8) instead of 0,0,414,736 (which is the screenrect of
iPhone 8 Plus.

Do you have such a device and if yes, would it be possible to do a quick
test and report here what you get?

Thanks a lot :)

Kind regards,
Panos

PS: I guess an iPhone 6 Plus or iPhone 7 Plus will do too, as all these 3
devices have the same screen size.

Re: Standalone failures

2020-10-15 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Hello Michael,

You do not need Xcode for this, but you do need the command line tools. Try
typing this in a Terminal:

sudo xcode-select --install

This will install/update the missing command line tools.

Hope this helps.

Hello David,

Have you tried trashing your Prefs?

1. Quit LC
2. Delete files:

/Users//Library/Preferences/RunRev/livecode.rev
/Users//Library/Preferences/RunRev/livecode7.rev

3. Open LC

I hope this fixes the problem :)

Re: Strange behavior between Mysql, MariaDB and SSL.

2020-08-26 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Hello all,

This is because MySQL 8 supports a stronger authentication method based on
SHA256, and this method is used by default.

LiveCode (as well as some other MySQL connectors/clients) do not support
this authentication method yet. In this case, you could configure your
MySQL installation to use the legacy authentication (password encryption)
method.

See the suggested answers in this link:
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/50093144/mysql-8-0-client-does-not-support-authentication-protocol-requested-by-server/50961428

Hope this helps.

2020-08-19 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode

You can get the release at https://downloads.livecode.com/livecode/ or via
the automatic updater.

release (9.6.0), including:

New Features
  - Support for building against API 29 on Android - which is now (since
the 3rd of August 2020) a requirement for new apps submitted to the Play
Store
  - Support for building with Xcode 11.5, using the iOS 13.5 SDK
  - New tsNet and mergExt builds, built with the iOS 13.5 SDK
  - Improved security, by using a New OpenSSL version (1.1.0g)

Bug Fixes:
  - Several improvements and bug fixes in HTML5
  - Faster auto-updater
  - Improvements in the barcode scanner widget
  - Several crashes have now been addressed

For the full list of all fixes, updates and enhancements please see the
release notes:
http://downloads.livecode.com/livecode/9_6_1/LiveCodeNotes-9_6_1.pdf

13.2 SDK
  - macOS 10.15.2: Xcode 11.5.x - LiveCode builds iOS apps using the iOS
13.5 SDK

There is a full list of working LiveCode/macOS/Xcode combinations here:
https://livecode.com/docs/9-5-0/faq/faq/

Note: Whilst we endeavour to release updated versions of LiveCode
supporting the latest Xcode/iOS SDKs as quickly as possible; we strongly
recommend disabling automatic update of Xcode or downloading the specific
version of Xcode required directly from the Apple developer portal and
installing it separately.

Important: Since the end of June 2020, Apple has only been accepting apps
built using iOS13 SDKs. This means that, if you wish to submit apps to the
AppStore you will have to be running at least macOS 10.14 in order to be
able to install the necessary version of Xcode.

Re: Browser Widget and Twitter on iOS 13

2020-08-14 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Hello all,

Definitely this is related to the user-agent. It seems twitter recently has
become stricter on this:

https://help.twitter.com/en/using-twitter/twitter-supported-browsers

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/63081729/when-using-r-curl-to-download-a-twitter-page-the-page-downloaded-is-this-brows

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/62967532/ipad-wkwebview-in-case-of-ipad-i-am-getting-this-browser-is-no-longer-supporte

I get the same warning ("this browser is no longer supported .." ) when I
try to visit https://twitter.com from a browser widget on my Mac (10.14.6)
with LC 9.6.0.

I was able to get rid of the warning by visiting the page Mark posted (
https://www.whatismybrowser.com/detect/what-is-my-user-agent) with Safari
to see what an accepted user-agent is, and then set the "userAgent" of the
browser widget to this value.

Kind regards,
Panos

[ANN] Release 9.6.1 RC-2

2020-08-04 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Dear list members,

We are pleased to announce the release of LiveCode 9.6.1 RC-2.

Getting the Release
===
You can get the release at https://downloads.livecode.com/livecode/ or via
the automatic updater.

Release Contents

LiveCode 9.6.1 RC-2 comes with 3 regression fixes:

- Inneractive Ads SDK is no longer included in Android commercial builds.
- Android Barcode Scanner preview rect now matches the widget rect
- tsNet iOS binaries are not included in Android builds

For the full list of all fixes, updates and enhancements please see the
release notes:
http://downloads.livecode.com/livecode/9_6_1/LiveCodeNotes-9_6_1_rc_2.pdf

Known issues

- The Browser widget's native layer is not shown in some Linux distros with
Cinnamon window manager.
- The use of the Browser widget is not supported on Ubuntu 18.04 64 bit LTS
yet.
- The mergSettings external still uses the UIWebView API on iOS, so
checking "mergSettings" in the Inclusions pane will cause an AppStore
rejection, since Apple no longer accepts new apps that use UIWebView.

Required Software

To build iOS apps with LiveCode you must have the appropriate versions of
Xcode as follows:

  - macOS 10.13.4: Xcode 10.1 - LiveCode builds iOS apps using the iOS 12.1
SDK
  - macOS 10.14.4: Xcode 11.3.x - LiveCode builds iOS apps using the iOS
13.2 SDK
  - macOS 10.15.2: Xcode 11.5.x - LiveCode builds iOS apps using the iOS
13.5 SDK

It will be fixed in 9.6.1 RC-2.

You can apply the fix locally, until RC-2 is released:
