using iOS15.x SDKs. This means that, if you wish to submit apps to the

Sierra (10.13) or higher.

[ ANN ] Release 9.6.6

2022-01-24 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Dear list members,

We are pleased to announce the release of LiveCode 9.6.6 STABLE.

Getting the Release
===
You can find the release in your LiveCode account area or get it via the
automatic updater.

Release Contents

LiveCode 9.6.6 comes with several changes, including fixes for lots of the
bugs you requested in the recent survey:

New Features:
- iOS device safe area insets function
An iphoneSafeAreaInsets function has been added to enable getting the safe
area insets of the device the app is running on. These can be used to
adjust your app's user interface elements to avoid areas that are covered
by device furniture, e.g. the notch.

- Android adaptive icons
It is now possible to configure your Android apps to use adaptive icons.
To use adaptive icons, generate them using the Image Asset Editor in
Android Studio and
then choose the resulting res folder in the android standalone settings
pane.

- Android app query whitelist
Support has been added for specifying which other apps can be interacted
with via the intent and other (custom) URL schemes.
Since Android 11, by default, an app cannot interact with any others due to
changes to package visibility. You must now specify which apps you need
access to by adding their ids to the App ID Query Whitelist field in the
Android standalone settings.

Bug Fixes:
- Opening HyperCard stacks will no longer cause a crash
- Support for the system date and the system time has been added on Android
- A stack's rect will no longer become out of sync with its actual position

[ANN] Release 9.6.6 RC-1

2021-12-21 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Dear list members,

We are pleased to announce the release of LiveCode 9.6.6 RC-1.

Getting the Release
===
You can find the release in your LiveCode account area or get it via the
automatic updater. To find the 9.6.6 RC-1 test release in your LiveCode
account, please scroll down to below the list of stable releases, to find
your available test releases.

Release Contents

LiveCode 9.6.6 RC-1 comes with several changes, including fixes for lots of
the bugs you requested in the recent survey:

- A stack's rect will no longer become out of sync with its actual position
after being moved in the IDE on macOS
- A wider range of TrueType font files will now work on Android and Web
- Use of the term Tutorials have been replaced by the term Lessons
throughout the IDE
- When a runtime error occurs in a context where the script debugger cannot
run, the error dialog will be displayed rather
than failing silently
- Conversions between global and local co-ordinates are now correct on
multi-screen macOS systems.

[ANN] Release 10.0.0 DP-1

2021-11-18 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Dear list members,

We are pleased to announce the release of LiveCode 10.0.0 DP-1.

Developer Preview Release
=
Warning: this is not a stable release. Please ensure that you back up your
stacks before testing them.

Getting the Release
===
You can find the release in your LiveCode account area or get it via the
automatic updater. To find the dp-1 test release in your LiveCode account,
please scroll down to below the list of stable releases, to find your
available test releases.

Release Contents

LiveCode 10.0.0 DP-1 comes with several bug fixes and some amazing new
features:

- Web deployment now uses WebAssembly

The WebAssembly engine is smaller, and substantially faster than the
previous asm.js version. In addition, moving to this new architecture means
that the wait command now works - along with any engine functionality which
internally uses wait-like functionality.

- A new "clipSnapshots" property has been added to the barcode scanner on
Android

By default, if a snapshot is taken by the Android barcode scanner widget,
the resulting image is clipped to the actual rect of the barcode. A new
property "clipSnapshots" has been added which can be set to false to
prevent this behavior, so that the resulting snapshot is the full image.

- Support for GLES3.x acceleratedRendering has been added for Android and
iOS devices

An OpenGL ES 3 implementation of the accelerated rendering backend has been
added. This makes it possible for future versions of LiveCode to leverage
the new technology to improve accelerated rendering performance. It also
enables accelerated rendering to be used with Android emulators.

- A new "bounds" option has been added to the LCB begin layer command

New syntax has been added to the Canvas library to allow specifying the
drawing boundary when beginning a new layer for an effect. This should be a
rectangle signifying the bounds of any drawing performed on the layer. This
information allows the canvas library to limit the amount of memory
allocated to the new layer by restricting the size of its backing buffer to
only that area required to correctly render effects based on the given
drawing bounds.

- A new "device transform" property has been added to the LCB canvas object

New syntax has been added to enable getting the current transform of a
canvas.
The canvas "device transform" property returns the affine transform from
logical units to backing device pixels.

- A new "is valid" operator has been added to the LCB image object

New syntax has been added to allow querying an image to determine if it
contains valid data. The image "is valid" operator returns a boolean value
indicating whether or not its data is valid.

For the full list of all fixes, updates and enhancements please see the
release notes:
http://downloads.livecode.com/livecode/10_0_0/LiveCodeNotes-10_0_0_dp_1.pdf

Re: iOS screen size

2021-05-21 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Hello Dan,

Rough guess, are you including a custom plist? If so, then this plist was
probably created by an older LC version, before storyboard support was
added. If this is the case, the (old) plist expects some splash images,
which are not in the app bundle, thus you see the black bars.

Kind regards,
Panos

case, this bug is very specific to Big Sur, and it is fixed in LC 9.6.2
RC-1+.

Re: the systemversion shows wrong version # on Mac

2021-05-07 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Hello all,

Yeap, what Phil said:

function mySystemVersion
   get shell("sw_vers -productVersion")
   return it
end mySystemVersion

This will return 11.2.3 on a Mac running Big Sur 11.2.3

See https://quality.livecode.com/show_bug.cgi?id=22887

Re: notarizing DMG fails

2021-05-04 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Hello Tiemo,

When did you create these certificates? And what is your MacOS version, and
the Xcode version returned if you type "xcode-select -p" in a Terminal? I
am wondering if you need to install the new Apple Worldwide Developer
Relations Intermediate Certificate:

https://developer.apple.com/support/wwdr-intermediate-certificate/

You can find it here:

2021-05-03 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Hello Tiemo,

Sorry, it seems this is no longer the case (i.e. the email from Apple no
longer contains the notarization log URL).

In this case, you can use the command that is described in section
6.3. Check the status of analysis
of Matthias' lesson

(
https://lessons.livecode.com/m/4071/l/1122100-codesigning-and-notarizing-your-lc-standalone-for-distribution-outside-the-mac-appstore
).

The output of this command will contain a URL, which you can visit to see
the detailed logs.

Re: App fails to launch after code signing

2021-04-26 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Hello all,

Yes, indeed, it seems the culprit is the Xcode version. We build LiveCode
(and its externals) against the MacOSX 10.9 SDK, and set the minimum
deployment version, again, to MacOSX 10.9.

If you examine the externals using the "otool" command (otool -l
/path/to/your.dylib | grep -B 1 -A 3 LC_VERSION_MIN), which returns some
info about the SDKs used, it returns:

   -
   - in LC 9.6.1 (built with Xcode 11.x):

Load command 8
cmd LC_VERSION_MIN_MACOSX
cmdsize 16
version 10.9
sdk 10.9

   - but in LC 9.6.2 RC-X (built with Xcode 12.x):

Load command 8
cmd LC_VERSION_MIN_MACOSX
cmdsize 16
version 10.9
sdk n/a

The "sdk n/a" part creates the problem. This happens because when
signing with hardened runtime enabled (this is a requirement for the
the notarization), then the "library validation" check is enabled by
default, and for this to work all the components must be built with at
least the MacOSX 10.9 sdk. But the "sdk n/a" part means that it does
not know what version of the sdk was used, so the library validation
feature blocks the externals from being launched. This is why
disabling the library validation is a temporary workaround.

We are investigating this, so as you do not need to disable library
validation just for loading the LC externals.

Kind regards,

Panos

Re: iOS push notifications on Windows

2021-04-23 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Hello Andrew,

The lesson was written and tested on a Mac. But yeah, on Windows, when
trying to execute "sh /path/to/send.sh" either directly from the
terminal or via the shell command using LC, it is expected to throw an
error. You _might_ be able to work around this by changing the .sh
extension to .bat if you are on Windows, and instead of "sh
/path/to/send.sh" use "/path/to/send.bat".

If I find some time I'll experiment with this and update the lesson next
week, unless you get there first :)

Re: Changes to revsecurity.dylib in LC 9.6.2?

2021-04-21 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Also, I am not entirely sure but I think LC 9.6.2 rc-1 and above was built
with xcode 12.x, whereas 9.6.1 was built with Xcode 11.x. However, in both
cases LC was built against the macosx10.9 sdk.

Btw, the error msg and what you see looks similar to this report about
revzip https://quality.livecode.com/show_bug.cgi?id=23176, that's why I
suggested using entitlements when signing.

Panos

Are you using any entitlements when signing the standalone? Could you try
adding the one that disables library validation?

[ANN] Release 9.6.2 RC-5

2021-04-14 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Dear list members,

We are pleased to announce the release of LiveCode 9.6.2 RC-5.

Getting the Release
===
You can get the release at https://downloads.livecode.com/livecode/ or via
the automatic updater.

Release Contents

LiveCode 9.6.2 RC-5 comes with 2 regression fixes:

- revUpdateGeometry in resizeStack handler causes a lock up when
maximizing/unmaximizing stack on Big Sur
- Script Editor not resizable - it is freezing up on Big Sur

For the full list of all fixes, updates and enhancements please see the
release notes:

http://downloads.livecode.com/livecode/9_6_2/LiveCodeNotes-9_6_2_rc_5.pdf

Known issues

- The Browser widget's native layer is not shown in some Linux distros with
Cinnamon window manager.
- The use of the Browser widget is not supported on Ubuntu 18.04 64 bit LTS
yet.

Required Software
=
To build iOS apps with LiveCode you must have the appropriate versions of
Xcode as follows:

  - macOS 10.13.4: Xcode 10.1 - LiveCode builds iOS apps using the iOS 12.1
SDK
  - macOS 10.14.4: Xcode 11.3.x - LiveCode builds iOS apps using the iOS
13.2 SDK
  - macOS 10.15.4+: Xcode 12.1.x - LiveCode builds iOS apps using the iOS
14.1 SDK

There is a full list of working LiveCode/macOS/Xcode combinations here:
https://livecode.com/docs/9-5-0/faq/faq/

Note: Whilst we endeavour to release updated versions of LiveCode
supporting the latest Xcode/iOS SDKs as quickly as possible; we strongly
recommend disabling automatic update of Xcode or downloading the specific
version of Xcode required directly from the Apple developer portal and
installing it separately.

Important: From the end of June 2020, Apple is only accepting apps built
using iOS13 SDKs. This means that, if you wish to submit apps to the
AppStore you will have to be running at least macOS 10.14 in order to be
able to install the necessary version of Xcode.

Re: [bug] strange memory leak in LC

2021-03-31 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Hello all,

After a brief Google search it seems there are some other apps that have a
similar memory leak after upgrading to Big Sur:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/252276774
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/252090206

The issue folks here (in this list) have mentioned does not seem to be
specific to M1 macs. It seems specific to Big Sur, since Andrew mentioned
he saw that in an iMac, and there are no M1 iMacs so far.

In the previous links people mention memory leaks in Safari. Do you also
see a memory leak with Safari? Also, did you use a stack with a browser
widget, when you experienced this issue? These 2 might be related.

Also, did you use (or did you leave open) the Dictionary stack? The
Dictionary does use a browser widget.

So far we are not able to reproduce the issue, because we either run Big
Sur on Parallels, and the VM is suspended when you choose "Sleep", or we
connect to a remote M1 Mac mini via VNC, and the connection will be lost if
we choose "Sleep" for this Mac.

Kind regards,
Panos

Android 9+ by default blocks non-https connections. You can workaround it
by tweaking the manifest file. There is a bug report (and a pull request)
about it. I am afk now so I cannot post the link.

Re: Android error messages are crap

2021-03-26 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Hello Andre,

Have you downloaded OpenJDK separately? I think it is bundled in Android
Studio.

The error sounds related to Java / JDK, so could it be the case you have
multiple Java installations in your machine, and LC is not picking the
right one?

What are the contents of /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/ ?

Also, what is the jdk path that is populated in the LC mobile prefs, when
you choose the sdk root folder?

Re: XCode 12.4 not working with LiveCode

2021-03-23 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Hello Andre,

Building with Xcode 12.4 is not supported yet - you need to download Xcode
12.1 if you are on MacOS Catalina+.

Support for Xcode 12.4 is coming in LC 9.6.3 RC-1

Kind regards,

Re: Apple Push Notifications update

2021-03-17 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Hello all,

You can find an updated lesson on how to send HTTP/2 based push
notifications on iOS:

https://lessons.livecode.com/m/4069/l/1380237-how-to-send-http-2-based-push-notifications-in-ios

Note that you do not need to do any changes in your app that *receives* push
notifications. The changes regarding the http2 API are only server-side,
i.e. on the way you *send* push notifications to your app.

Kind regards,
Panos

[ANN] Release 9.6.2 RC-3

2021-03-12 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Dear list members,

We are pleased to announce the release of LiveCode 9.6.2 RC-3.

Getting the Release
===
You can get the release at https://downloads.livecode.com/livecode/ or via
the automatic updater.

Release Contents

LiveCode 9.6.2 RC-3 comes with 6 regression fixes, including:

- Visual effects doesn't work on macOS Big Sur
- Cannot close "Ask Password" dialog as Sheet in modal stack
- mergLA not included in 9.6.2 RC 2
- PDF Widget broken on iOS device

For the full list of all fixes, updates and enhancements please see the
release notes:
http://downloads.livecode.com/livecode/9_6_2/LiveCodeNotes-9_6_2_rc_3.pdf

Feedback

Please report any bugs encountered on our quality center at
http://quality.livecode.com/

We have a forum available for discussing LiveCode Builder at

Re: Print to PDF and Big Sur

Thanks for the update, Marty. So it seems the revpdfprinter.dylib was not
signed, and Big Sur does not allow unsigned binaries to run, or sth like
this.

The "--deep" param ensures all the components in the bundle will be signed.

Re: Codesigning & notarizing

2021-02-04 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
@Marty

If you have not done it already, it might be worth adding entitlements to
the codesign.

https://lessons.livecode.com/m/4071/l/1293515-entitlements-for-signed-and-notarized-apps

I do not think it is the Xcode version that is the problem. I am on Mojave
as well, so I can do a quick test if you send me the standalone that
crashes. Also make sure you attach the stack to the bug report :)

Kind regards,
Panos

Re: LC Community Ask Password

2021-01-21 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Hello Bob,

I just did a quick test in LC 9.6.2 RC-2 and I cannot reproduce this bug. I
put this code in a button:

on mouseUp pButtonNumber
ask password "Please log in:" titled "Password Test"
end mouseUp

I also tried putting this button in a modal stack.

In both cases, I can type in the ask password dialog, and the OK and Cancel
buttons do respond.

Could you file a bug report and attach a sample stack that demonstrates the
problem, so as we fix it asap?

Also, what is your MacOS version? I tested on Mojave.

Kind regards,
Panos

Re: [ANN] Release 9.6.2 RC-2

2021-01-12 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Hello Andre,

The current x86_64 (i.e. Intel-based) build of LiveCode, as well as any
x86_64 standalones created by it, are expected to run seamlessly on M1
Macs, via "Rosetta" (i.e. the translation/compatibility layer that enables
a M1 Mac to run apps built for an Intel-based Mac). The M1 Mac will ask you
if you want to install Rosetta the first time you try to launch an app made
for Intel.

What is not supported though, yet, are native ARM LiveCode builds, that
will be able to create ARM standalones for M1 Macs. This is in our TODO
list, but I cannot provide an ETA for this.

Hope this helps :)

Cheers,
Panos

Re: LC & Mac M1 Chip

2021-01-08 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Hello all,

Just a clarification - the bug about dashes in menus in standalones on Big
Sur is:

https://quality.livecode.com/show_bug.cgi?id=23009

and not https://quality.livecode.com/show_bug.cgi?id=23013

BTW, could someone that has a M1 Mac confirm that in the LC 9.6.2 RC-1 IDE
there are no dashes in front of the menus - in other words that this bug is
fixed:
https://quality.livecode.com/show_bug.cgi?id=22955

Thank you!

Kind regards,
Panos

Re: Building a Standalone MacOS App in 9.6.1

2021-01-06 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Hello Terry,

Just a clarification - the correct command is:

sudo xcode-select --install

and not

sudo xcode-select —install

Hope this helps.

Kind regards,
Panos
