Recent stacks are stored in the prefs file, so they are persistent 
across all LC versions that share the same prefs file. However, if you 
change the Start Center then yes, I'm pretty sure that would get replaced.


The other points you make are valid, including that you've been around 
long enough that I should have caught the tongue-in-cheek comments. :)

You might place a keyboard shortcut in a library script or plugin to reset
the rect of the SE to your liking. Better than slogging through the msgs.

Ditto Mike's solution: this happens so regularly that I just have to up arrow 
through my cmds in the msg box to find the above.

Ah.

So the name of the bebugger stack has changed yet again. Third time in my
lifetime..

I wonder why the old stack "revdebuggerLibrary" still lives, though maybe it
has evolved into the library paradigm that v.8+ has embraced. 

Anyway that is the solution. And a reminder that all of LC is just stacks,
and can be accessed if you know where to look.

around, and then get the loc again, I get the old result.

I recently found an errant pulldown button right on my script editor. I was
able to delete it, copy it to another stack, whatever. So "normal"
operations work on that stack, sort of. 

You need someone better at manipulating IDE gadgetry than me.

Script Editor problem

HI Folks

I've done some work on preferences recently and there are a number of issues 
but I think the core of it is preferences are currently undocumented. I've 
started and we will document more as we touch each preference. If anyone from 
the community is interested to contribute to that effort it would be a great 
help. 

The next issue is in many cases there are still older that scripts get and set 
custom properties directly on the revPreferences stack rather than go via the 
revIDEGetPreference and revIDESetPreference. This makes it difficult for us to 
switch to a non-stackFile based data store. Only recently did we notice there 
was a setProp handler on the revPreferences stack that was interfering with the 
menu! Again if anyone wants to contribute to changing preference getters and 
setters to use the API they are more than welcome.

Regarding IDE stacks not being where they are meant to be I have done some work 
on this recently with a focus on multiple screen issues. Many IDE stacks were 
using the screenRect and the screenLoc rather than line (the screen of this 
stack) of the working screenRects. If anyone wants to see and comment on my 
changes and suggest others here is my proposed patch.

There are still issues with:

- saving stack rects in preferences in combination with multiple screens where 
if you have a few different common screen arrangements (for me either just my 
laptop as main screen or my 27 inch monitor as main screen and my laptop and 
another monitor on each side) the IDE should remember where you want things for 
that screen arrangement.
- saving screen rects while a stack is in a maximized/Mac fullscreen state 
rather than saving the state. This requires some support at engine level for 
control and awareness of the maximized state of a window. Dealing with 
fullscreen state on Mac is rather high priority now that 10.11 has defaulted 
toplevel windows to have the fullscreen rather than zoom button.

Disappearing property inspector and script editor
windows happen often here in latest desktop versions
of LC 6/7 on all three, Mac/Win/Linux.
I had then always a lot of windows open or too many
(closed) stacks in memory.
That's why I cannot fix a situation for a bug report.

Deleting the prefs stack is the answer to far too many questions.

The LC stack file format is robust.  What exactly is the IDE doing that 
makes its prefs file so pervasively brittle?

it looked like some type of corruption in the file.
That suggestion from tech support worked.

AW: Windows 10 script editor problem

Might be something different, but I have for a long time over all last versions 
randomly odd IDE window behavior on Windows. Often there is a window, sometimes 
the script editor, sometime a stack of mine, where the window keeps minimized 
in the task bar and only can be opend by right klicking on the task bar icon 
and choose "maximize".

The script editor in v7 also seems to suffer from display issues.  Once
I've ruled out blendLevel and position, the only way I've been able to get
it to reappear is issue "close stack

huge monitor.

Maybe there was something weird in your remote desktop settings that was 
cleared in the new account.

Windows 10 script editor problem

Hi all,

I have a student who is trying to run 8.1.0DP1 on her Windows 10 laptop. It 
installs and launches, and she can open a stack, but when she tries to open a 
script editor window, it does not appear. There is a tab for it on the task 
bar, but clicking on the tab doesn’t bring up the editor window. It’s almost 
like it’s invisible or off screen somewhere. I tried showing IDE windows in the 
View menu, and I can see it in the Project Manager list, but again, it won’t 
appear on the screen. Setting the visibility to true doesn’t help, neither does 
setting the loc to somewhere on screen.

Has anybody run into this with LC 8? Maybe there’s something about Windows 10 I 
don’t get, like some sort of virtual desktop, “Spaces” thing.
