That page states this:

"That's why we created the GitHub Student Developer Pack with some of

So, I, for one would not expect a link to LiveCode to be there.

I would expect links to LiveCode's "partners and friends," which is

I would recommend version 9.5.1 Community Stable to get started with.

Tried in Win 10-64 pro (v1803), both with LC 9.0.1 and 6.7.10, both in IDE

   SpecialFolderPath("resources")
_is_always_

You may assume _not_ to have write permissions in the program folder (in
modern OSses).
For user data there is the SFPs "documents" and "temporary".

Re: Where does LiveCode/Windows store specialFolderPath("Resources") data?

2018-10-02 Thread Howard Bornstein via use-livecode
That's the result I get when I'm running in the LC environment. That didn't
happen with a standalone. The dictionary describes where these files go: "In
a standalone, the resources folder where files or folders specified in the
Standalone Builder are located." It says your resources go in "the
resources folder" where any files you've specified are located.

This appears to be referring to the Copy Files tab of the Standalone
Builder. Since my data file is created in the app, I don't have anything to
put in the Copy Files tab. If this tab is empty, what is the default
location? Is there some other place in the Standalone builder where you can
point to files or folders?

On the Mac, this definition is verifiable, since my data file *is* in the
Resources folder (although a couple levels down) within the application
bundle. Under Windows, is there actually a folder somewhere called
Resources? Where is it?

Where does LiveCode/Windows store specialFolderPath("Resources") data?

2018-10-02 Thread Howard Bornstein via use-livecode
I'm building a cross-platform app for Mac and Windows. I store a data file
that is update by the user in specialFolderPath("Resources"). On the Mac, I
know where this is and can even view it, using the Show Package command
from the Finder.

One thing that is clear with the Mac is that this data file is encapsulated
with the app itself. If I run a separate instance of the app, the data file
is completely separate and not influenced by the data file of the first app.

This doesn't seem to be the case with Windows. I've built 3 separate
standalones in Windows and have found, to my surprise, that if I change the
data file in one of the standalones, it is reflected in the datafile of the
others.

Somehow it seems like the data file is stored externally from the app and
that all versions have access to it (whether that is my intent or not).

I've build special versions for each platform with the command
"Put specialFolderPath("Resources") into fld "somefield" in the openstack
handler. On the Mac it gives me the full path to the application along with
"/Contents/Resources/_MacOS/". On the Windows version, the field is blank.

So where does LC store files using specialFolderPath("Resources") under
Windows? And why are they available to any app using
specialFolderPath("Resources")?

To further hijack this thread… I seem to recall Kevin demonstrating a keyboard
combination for getting LC out of some frozen states (not command - period).
This was at a conference a while back (Atlantic City, perhaps) Anyone recall
what the keyboard combination was?

Sorry to piggyback, I don't have the original post. But a freeze isn't a
crash, so there won't be a log. The user quit the app manually, even if
it was a force-quit. It could be the result of LC getting into some kind

where are Livecode crash logs stored?

2018-01-10 Thread Matthias Rebbe via use-livecode
Hi,

i need to send a Livecode crash log to a developer of a database driver.
Where do i find that log on Mac OS X?
Calling revdatafromquery functions freezes Livecode immediately and i am not
able to get it back. I need to force quit it in the Finder.

I thought i could find them in ~/Library/Application Support/Runrev/CrashLogs,
but that folder is empty.
Is there another place or is no log written because Livecode freezes completely.

Re: Where is LiveCode

2017-10-05 Thread Sean Cole (Pi) via use-livecode
Hi Antti,

I wouldn't class LiveCode along with these Low-Code apps as LC requires a
lot more code than these offerings mentioned. A different kind of product.
But it was a good read so thanks for posting it.

regards

Sean Cole

Where is LiveCode 7.0 DP7 ?

2014-07-12 Thread Peter W A Wood
I went to enter an enhancement request into Quality Center and the I am using
LiveCode version dropdown list included LiveCode 7.0 DP 7. When I opened my
account in the LiveCode store, LiveCode 7.0 DP 7 was not available for download.

Does anybody know if 7.0 DP 7 has been released? If so do you know where it can
be downloaded from?

Thanks in advance.

It's on the way. Definitely not stable enough yet even for a dp
release. But getting closer.

I have seen this as well. I do the following:

1. Command - period sometimes works. Interesting that it sometimes brings me
to a secured front script that belongs to Scott Rossi's themes.
2. Click the desktop and back sometimes feels like it works
3. Wait about 2 minutes for it to come back
4. Remember that you save after every line of code and just force quit to get
back to work

I have noticed this behavior since version 5 came out. Many have seen this
elusive behavior. It is difficult to make a recipe for this though.

I tend to alternate between those two, either force-quitting or just
staring out the window for a couple of minutes and reconnecting with
the outside world. My guess is that some kind of garbage collection is
going on and that the mechanism changed with LC 5.x

Re: just where does livecode go when the ide takes a minute or two off?

2012-07-21 Thread Dr. Hawkins
OK, now I just got it after saving, removing from memory, and
reloading . . . and it looks like the system, load spiked (red on mac)
for a bit too, before it went all green (user)

I can watch the spiked load pass from core to core, though.

If the debugger is to be trusted (and it shouldn't have launched!), it
is in a ck, which is a trivial function that puts its argument after
a field in a stack for me to watch (created because there is no
messagebox in the standalones, and to give me a longer list).

The next line is a breakpoint.

It hasn't just gone away; it's just plain hung.

Off to forcequit . . .

Try keeping the dictionary closed for a while and see if it still
happens. That may narrow down the cause one way or the other.

just where does livecode go when the ide takes a minute or two off?

2012-07-20 Thread Dr. Hawkins
Sometimes when I've sent something into a loop, but othertimes just
working in the editor, the ide locks up for what appears to be a
minute or two.

What is going on here?

Does the IDE belong to a union or some such? :)

hmmm... What version of LC? And have you tried removing all your plugins to
another folder temporarily then restarting LC to see if it helps? Also, when
this happens, try holding down the escape key. I've had issues where something
has hung in one of the IDE stacks. That will usually free it up.

I'll try that next time.

Sometimes there is a full cpu load when this happens, and sometimes not.

If I have a recursion or similar problem, it sends a message, doesn't
it? (i think i got that a few weeks ago--just because two controls
were trying to set to the value of the other based upon their own . .
