2014-11-03 Thread Kenji Kojima
Jim,

My On-Rev client could not connect to Tio On-Rev server. Probably after
Yosemite (not sure).
I contacted to On-Rev support, after that I could connect to the server by
Or-Rev client, but “Debug of On-Rev client did not work. The error message on
Safari was “Safari Can’t Connect to the Server. Safari can’t open the page
“kojima.on-rev.com:7309/kenjikojima.com/calendar/simpleCal/index.irev” because
Safari can’t connect to the server “kojime.on-rev.com’.

A huge thanks to David Williams for working on this during what must be such a

Re: on-rev Client

2014-10-14 Thread Pierre Sahores
Hi All,

The on-rev client used to be a good intention and tool but, with the time, it
began to appears to me as an complex alternative to a lots more easy way to go.
Here is the one i use instead to stay more comfortable with all the lc-server
development tasks :

1.- web, mobile or desktop client-side apps intended to send http POST (to be
preferred in about security tasks) or GET requests to lc-server have to be set
to send them to a « gateway.lc » script of the following format :

 ?lc

 try

   start using stack yourappserverstack.livecode
   get yourappserverstackglobalsinitializationprocedure()
   get yourappserverstackglobalsinitializationcontroler()

   catch tErr
   try

   start using stack yourappserverstackclone.livecode
   get yourappserverstackglobalsinitializationprocedure()
   get yourappserverstackglobalsinitializationcontroler()

   catch tErr
put Maintenance at work. Thanks to wait some minutes before
 renewing your response...

   end try

 end try

 ?

Where stack « yourappserverstackclone.livecode is the copy of the main
server’s stack intended to respond instead of it in one case only : because the
just updated yourappserverstack.livecode » is, for some seconds, unavailable
because in the process to be erased/uploaded on the server.

It’s always a good security related measure to choose to install both «
gateway.lc » script, « yourappserverstack.livecode » and «
yourappserverstackclone.livecode » the cgi-bin directory of your app’s domain
main directory.

...

At this point, all the « hard work » is over ;D

The next step is to open your preferred FTP client app (Transmit or Cyberduck
on mac, Cyberduck or FileZilla on PC, etc…) and to right-clic «
yourappserverstack.livecode » to open it in your preferred LC Desktop IDE
version as long as it is = LC 6.0 (or perhaps 5.02 or 5.5, i can’t remember
the right back-compatibility to apply there) to avoid legacy file-fomat
possible troubles at the time you wants to save your server’s stack
modifications as soon as the job is done.

...

It’s not the first time i expose this way to go and Andre Garcia reported, on
its own, the same way to go. It just works perfectly for years and, because,
list archive are not always consulted as they should, i wanted to refresh this
;D

Best,

Pierre

Fwd: on-rev Client

2014-10-14 Thread Pierre Sahores
Hi Mathias,

No more than the ones that you will be able to use from within the standard iDE
as long as you insert your own trace tags in your server’s stack code, mainly
as « return it/the result » ones.

To the end, you will see how easy it’s to go and, more than that, if your
server’s stacks use a MVC design and an SQL back-end for data storage. To the
end, your server’s stacks are going to become so lightweight that there will no
be place anymore for bugs ;D

Note 1: on the yearly average time i spend in LC n-tier development tasks, 90%
of the time is spent in client-side (web, mobile, desktop) modeling/coding and
10% in about server-side stacks and SQL modeling/coding.

Note 2 : any server’s stack intended to serve web apps will never being best
build than in using the fantastic Ralf Bitter's Revigniter port of the PHP’s
CodeIgniter framework.

What else : if i right remember, you use extensively PostgreSQL as your
preferred SQL back-ends, is’t ? ;D

Best,

Pierre

 Hi All,

The on-rev client used to be a good intention and tool but, with the time,
it began to appears to me as an complex alternative to a lots more easy way
to go. Here is the one i use instead to stay more comfortable with all the
 lc-server development tasks :

1.- web, mobile or desktop client-side apps intended to send http POST (to
be preferred in about security tasks) or GET requests to lc-server have to
be set to send them to a « gateway.lc » script of the following format :

 ?lc

 try

 start using stack yourappserverstack.livecode
 get yourappserverstackglobalsinitializationprocedure()
 get yourappserverstackglobalsinitializationcontroler()

 catch tErr
 try

 start using stack yourappserverstackclone.livecode
 get yourappserverstackglobalsinitializationprocedure()
 get yourappserverstackglobalsinitializationcontroler()

 catch tErr
put Maintenance at work. Thanks to wait some minutes before
 renewing your response...

 end try

 end try

 ?

Where stack « yourappserverstackclone.livecode is the copy of the main
server’s stack intended to respond instead of it in one case only : because
the just updated yourappserverstack.livecode » is, for some seconds,
unavailable because in the process to be erased/uploaded on the server.

It’s always a good security related measure to choose to install both «
 gateway.lc » script, « yourappserverstack.livecode » and «
 yourappserverstackclone.livecode » the cgi-bin directory of your app’s
 domain main directory.

 ...

At this point, all the « hard work » is over ;D

The next step is to open your preferred FTP client app (Transmit or
Cyberduck on mac, Cyberduck or FileZilla on PC, etc…) and to right-clic «
yourappserverstack.livecode » to open it in your preferred LC Desktop IDE
version as long as it is = LC 6.0 (or perhaps 5.02 or 5.5, i can’t remember
the right back-compatibility to apply there) to avoid legacy file-fomat
possible troubles at the time you wants to save your server’s stack
modifications as soon as the job is done.

 ...

It’s not the first time i expose this way to go and Andre Garcia reported,
on its own, the same way to go. It just works perfectly for years and,
because, list archive are not always consulted as they should, i wanted to
 refresh this ;D

 Best,

on-rev Client

2014-10-13 Thread Paul Hibbert
 http://newsletters.livecode.com/august/issue177/newsletter2.html

It was reported in the newsletter 177 that the On-Rev Client was working again,
I tested it at the time and managed to log on successfully, but now I can't,
has anybody else had similar problems?

I can logon to the cPanel OK, so I know my username and password are correct,
but the On-Rev Client tells me they are wrong.

I know there's a lot of opposition to this software and it has been a
frustrating experience using it then not being able to for so long. I did find
it useful at times so I was pleased to see it back again, but has it crapped
out again so soon?

I'll file a bug report if it's not just me that's having problems.

Re: Editing with On-Rev Client (was: Path to start using a stack in On-Rev?)

2011-08-06 Thread Martin Koob
I have posted the following bugs to the QCC relating to the On-Rev Editor.

#9661 On-Rev Editor - View Online button button is disabled when editing .lc
files
#9662 On-Rev Editor - Code blocks with ?lc ? are not colourized
#9663 On-Rev Editor - Debug button is disabled when editing .lc files.

I posted these with the Component set as 'unclassified'. The is no
component for On-Rev editor nor LiveCode Server. I posted another bug
asking that components be added for these. Bug #9653

Re: Editing with On-Rev Client (was: Path to start using a stack in On-Rev?)

2011-08-03 Thread Martin Koob
Hi

Someone mentioned in an earlier post that the extension you use determines
which engine will be used by On-rev

.irev files are processed with the 3.5 engine
.lc files are processed with the 4.6.3 engine

From my tests this means if you use .irev extension then none of the
Livecode server 4.6.3 features are available such as stacks and that the
?lc? code block will not be recognized.

However if you use a file with .lc extension then you get all the 4.6.3
features and both ?lc ? and ?rev ? code blocks work.

I tried using ?lc ? code blocks in a file with an .lc extension in the
On-rev editor and they are not colourized but when I save the .lc file to
the server and test it the ?lc ? code block is recognized so it is just
that the editor does not recognized the ?lc ? block.

With LiveCode server installed on my own computer I can mix and match .lc
or .rev extensions and ?lc ? and ?rev ? code blocks. To get the .irev
extension recognized by my livecode server intallation I put an entry in the
httpd.conf file for each extension. (this was for an installation of
livecode server on Mac OS X server Snow Leopard.)

AddHandler livecode-script lc
AddHandler livecode-script irev
Action livecode-script /cgi-bin/livecode-server/livecode-server

So there are three bugs that should be posted for On-rev editor.
1. View Online button button is disabled when editing .lc files
2. Code blocks with ?lc ? are not colourized
3. Debug button is disabled when editing .lc files.

For debugging I had read that debugging is not supported for third party
installs. Is this because Livecode Server 4.6.3 does not support live
debugging at all or is it supported just on On-rev hosted sites.

So If no one has posted these as bugs yet I will go ahead and do that.

Editing with On-Rev Client (was: Path to start using a stack in On-Rev?)

2011-08-02 Thread Bob Cole
Martin:
While editing some .lc server scripts with On-Rev Client, I found that if I use
the ?lc ? block then the script looks like unformatted text which agrees with
your observation.
However, when I changed the block to ?rev ? then the formatting appeared.
Unfortunately, the View Online and Debug buttons were still disabled.
It appears that the buttons are enabled only for .irev files.
Anyone know how to enable the On-Rev Client buttons for .lc scripts?
Bob

Yes I found the setting to add lc as an irev type which allows me to edit it
in the on-rev client but when I select a file with the .lc extension the
'View online' and 'Debug' buttons are disabled. It seems to treat the file
as other plain text files except for the colourization.

Is debugging supported for 4.6.3?
Why would 'View online' not work?

I'm not sure, but I know someone said that RunRev would be upgrading the On-Rev
server to use the latest LiveCode 4.6.3 Server release... if they are doing it
this weekend that might be the reason?

Re: on-Rev client software

2011-07-23 Thread Martin Koob
Hi Len

I started with on-rev a while ago, I had no background in web development
other than some basic HTML. The way I figured it out was I downloaded John
Craig's .irev scripts and MySQL files from his Splash21 on-rev site that he
developed and uploaded them to my own on-rev site as a starting point. You
can find these at
http://splash21.on-rev.com
You have to login to see the downloads link.

Then I started poking around the scripts learning how they worked and
started modifying them to create my own site. John's scripts and handlers
made it quite easy to create new pages and manage users and access to pages
and interact with the mySQL database.

Along the way I found other resources such as Sarah Reichelt's webpage
http://www.troz.net/rev
This has examples as well as links to other sites with on-rev info

The other thing I used was the irev-engine-notes.txt file, which was dated
2009-06-02 I can't remember where I got that. That gives some basic
explanations and documents some of the commands that were not in the
dictionary.

I set up my site before revigniter framework was developed
http://revigniter.com/
I haven't yet tried revigniter yet but I want to but since the Splash21
based site is serving my needs right now It hasn't been a priority.

Hi Jim...

I think that you are a little mixed up here..:-) splash21 is 'John Craig' of
mobGUI fame and he is also responsible for the website
http://splash21.on-rev.com/... He does indeed live fairly near Edinburgh, in
Paisley which is closer to Glasgow...

be well

 Just a note about Splash21

The author's name is Scott McDonald, and his web site
 http://splash21.on-rev.com/
John Craig is the author of MobGUI for LC mobile app programmers.

By the way, John is a Scot, living in or near Edinburgh,
and the Splash21 Scott lives in Australia.

I'd love to see cave paintings. :) Yesterday RR released a dozen or so

Right, but this is about on-rev, not about the LC server product. To
my knowledge RR hasn't updated the server installation on the on-rev

whether the ancient and dreaded on-rev client will work with the new
