based on linux guest os, preconfigured with latest couchdb version ?

I had some issues with CouchDB on Windows...you might try using a IP
address instead of a DNS name. Switching from localhost to 127.0.0.1
cut my response time from 3-5 sec just a few ms. It seems the windows
DNS routine fail epicly at times.

that might be the whole ipv6 issue.firefox and chrome try ipv6, fail, then
fall back to ipv4, any time you hit localhost. you can disable that behavior
in ff, and have to turn off ipv6 for chrome to stop.
