This commit fixes a bug seen in CoreOS because of which containers cannot be launched on a CNI network. While specific to CoreOS, the bug can manifest itself in any distro that does not setup `/etc/hosts`/ and `/etc/hostname` by default. Hence, wanted this commit to be backported to 1.0.3.
