Agree. Spark is not designed for embedding in business applications(those
traditional J2EE) for real-time interaction.

I had it setup with three nodes, a master and 2 slaves. Is there anything that
would tell me it was in local mode. I am also added the –deploy-mode cluster
flag and saw the same results.

The interval is for time, so you won't get micro-batches in same data size
but same time length.
