Struts is known as a friendly place. Not today ;-o
Most containers run on 8080, since on Windows IIS runs on port 80 and in Linux Apache runs on port 80 as default.
Newbies have problems starting containers if they default to 80. "pros" know to stop the IIS/Apache and switch "Tomcat" to 80.

Yes I tried google, and yes this question isnt about struts specifically but it is a struts RELATED question that should be allowed on the list (you can't use struts without an application server). I know I'm on your "kill list" dgraham (btw, what is more lame, me asking a question, or you bragging about your KILL FILE, OMG ITS A KILL FILE, WHAT OTHER KINDS OF E-PENIS ENHANCING FILES DO YOU MAINTAIN?), but I have to reply to your comment. I'm not wasting your time unless you actually take the time to reply, which you have already done. so you actually wasted your own time. what you should have done is just ignored my message completely since you obviously don't want to help anyone that isn't asking questions that you personally feel are not "lame".

I think you're confused about who is wasting who's time. And in case
you're still confused, your simple (and extremely LAME) question is
wasting the time of EVERY person on this list. What you failed to
glean from the previous answer is that you are obviously too dumb (or
too lazy) to find the answer yourself, and we're not gonna do it for
you.
No need to reply, you're in my kill file. "joe a." <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

How about ANSWERING the question instead of HINTING at it and wasting
my time. Or maybe go get laid, that would probably help too
