Hi,
In case anybody is interested, in the context of VNX project we have
adapted the mconsole-exec patch to version 3.3.8 of kernel. This patch
allows the execution of commands inside virtual machines from the host
using uml_mconsole command.
You can find it here:

Haywood,
Just to complete the information provided by Vincent, there are other tools
that easy the creation and management of network scenarios based on UML that
can be useful for you, for example, have a look at:
* VNUML. http://www.dit.upm.es/vnuml
* MLN. http://mln.sourceforge.net/

Hi,
I am making some tests running UML inside an Ubuntu-8.04-jeos running over
Vmware ESX, but the performance I get is very poor compared to running UML
directly over a native Ubuntu.
For example, starting a virtual machine takes almost three times more over ESX:
Ubuntu-jeos over VMware ESX
However, doing it that way, we lose the scroll bar capability in the consoles.
Any idea about how to have a scroll bar? Do you know any other xterm-like
program that can be associated with a pts and showing a scroll bar?
Thanks in advance,

Hi,
I made some experiments some months ago with VNUML over a Fedora 8 based
coLinux image and I had some problems (virtual machines did not started; I
did not have time to investigate why).
After reading your mail I found some time to try it again, this time with a
Debian image, and everything w

Hi,
consider also to use VNUML (http://www.dit.upm.es/vnuml). It is an open source
tool designed to create virtual network scenarios (isolated or connected to
real equipment) that could be useful in your case.

that problem.

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the patch. We have made several tests with a 2.6.18-1 kernel
compiled with your patch and all the reported problems are gone.
Best regards and happy christmas,
David

I've repeated the tests with a 2.6.13.4 kernel with bs4 patch
(http://www.dit.upm.es/vnuml/download/linux/linux-2.6.13.4-bs4-1m.bz2) and
the behaviour seems much better:

- above 370M the vm does simply not start (just 6 log lines and after

I attach two files with boot traces: one with "mem=232M" that works
perfectly, and the other with "mem=235M" that hangs after "Mounted devfs on
/dev" message.
Let me know any other details you are interested in.

Hi,
After some tests with VNUML tool, I experimented some problems when using
memory sizes of 256M or bigger.
Basically when I start a virtual machine assigning it 255M (with mem=255M
line option) everything works, but when using 256M or more, the virtual
machines hangs during startup after show
Hi,
In my case I have normal access to /proc. Also I execute uml's as root so I
do not have permission problems.
The problem could be related with xterm. See my answer to the ""Zombie"
linux process (UML 2.6.9 on 2.6.9-skas3-v7 host)" subject in a next mail.
Best regards,
David

Just one more detail to add to the problem reported by Fermin.
I've experimented the same behaviour also with a 2.6.7-skas3-v7 host but
with a slight difference: in 2.6.7 the zombie process only appears when the
console is set to xterm, but not when it is set to a pts. In 2.6.9 the
zombie proce
