forcing an IP to a VM

2014-07-31 Thread Juan Gomez Aranzazu
Hi everybody,

Can anyone help me telling me how to Force a VM that its on an advance zone to
use a predefine IP address. I had a vm that got corrupted and didn't want to
start anymore, so i created a second VM but i need to assign to it the same IP
that i had in the old VM how can i accomplish this?. Do i just make the change
in the database?.

Thank you for your help.

Forcing the master host in a cluster to reboot possible issue that may occur

2014-05-07 Thread Juan Gomez
Hi everyone,

So right now we have the master host in our cluster freeze, the only solution
we see to getting it back to function is to force reboot it. But We are afraid
that if we force reboot it the other hosts in the cluster won't know which is
the master in the cluster and the whole cluster will be in an outage. So what
do you recommend that we do or do you think that forcing to reboot the host
won't cause any additional issues in the infrastructure?

My organization uses Zenoss as our monitoring solution. We leverage the good,
but horribly documented, API to automate the addition/deletion of new
VM’s/devices. Minimizing the management requirements of the monitoring
solution. Aside from Zenoss, Zabbix, Nagios, and Pandora are all good choices.
Each, has their pro’s and con’s.

You’re always going to face management problems in a public cloud. one quick
and dirty way to ensure easy management would be to enable SNMP polling on all
of your templates and monitor your entire public block. It’s lazy, but it would
minimize the time need to manage new VM’s in your monitoring solution.

Hi everyone

I work for a company name Kumo (www.kumo.com.co). We are one of the most
important public clouds in Colombia, all of our platforms are based on
cloudstack and Cloud business portal. Right now we have a very complex
problem because we are not being able to bill our costumers automatically.
This is because all of our costumers have different prices for the same
kind of product or VM, this is due to commercial issues and negotiations
that are necessary to do in the colombian market. So we want to build a
billing web application using the cloudstack API in order to create bills
for costumers in an automatically way and also send alerts and take actions
to suspend services if payments are not being received. Does anyone know
examples of this kind of application using the cloudstack API, or have any
insights on how we should approach this problem.

Thank you for your help and pardon my bad spelling.

Hi Juan,

My experience is merely a case of looking on the Hostbill website I'm
afraid. I have a feeling that the solution may be subject to some
limitations - I'm not sure how it handles resources that aren't originally
provisioned by the Hostbill interface, and there's a noticeable lack of
info on provisioning and billing for VPCs and advanced networking but
perhaps not an issue for you. The demos I've seen seem to be focussed on
using Cloudstack as a basic VPS hosting platform. Unfortunately that's
about the extent of the insight I can offer. Search for Hostbill
Cloudstack and you'll find a few demos with screenshots on their site.

If anyone has looked into this in greater detail, I too would be keen to
hear about your experiences.
