document in a scalar vector graphics fromat such as eps.

It may be a bad idea to copy chart templates across sheets.
I may be wrong, but a scenario solution could help you to fill one chart
with interchangable data sets. Scenarios are hidden sheets with data
sets that can be used to fill out a visible cell range.
Example file:
