His OS is Linux Mint 16 (Debian family, just as Ubuntu is so they use
the same commands fwiw) but i didn't think to ask about any of the

It worked fine on mine but then i am using Ubuntu. Are you on
Windows? Have you tried other fonts such as Liberation Sans? Which
font are you using?
