I just add MATE to Ubuntu, using the instructions on MATE's
download/install pages. Takes a few commands in Terminal, but the
downloading and install of them can take some time, depending on the
connection speed and the speed of the computer.
I hate Unity, but I sometimes log into that DE

different computers.I use the version from The document foundation, and
not from Ubuntu.

quite a major undertaking isn't it? Switching to a new one and
leaving the existing one intact is fairly easy but i guess that
