I have had this one quite frequently as I edit the same manuals from 
Linux, Mac and Windows machines, all in LO.
I found that the cause was that the font Arial was not the same on all 
machines, so I took my font package from Linux and installed it on all 
machines I edit on and now the jumping lines have stopped.

Thank you Wiebe for updating the existing bug report, that should be
enough. However their reply indicates that it may be difficult to solve.
Not sure that status *needinfo* means, if they want more info from us. I
hope they will take a look at this bug as it is easy to reproduce.

I have seen similar problems with pagination in tables and frames too,
where no pictures were involved. Starting with this pic bug, I hope it may
solve some other bug too related to page formatting.

A common feature of all objects is that when you try to manipulate their 
content the "parent" program will open: double click on an equation will 
open Math, double click on a Calc table inserted in Writer will open 
Calc and so on.

Hi Ricardo,

Thanks for kindly taking the time to respond. Having been involved with
this software since Sun open sourced the Star Office code in 2001, I was
already aware of the the things you refer to. However, you have
overlooked the point I was making:

We describe all of those things as being "Objects", but then in the
"Help" facility "Selecting;Objects" section we go on to tell "half
truths" about selecting and grouping *ALL* of those things described as
being "Objects".  You can combine several graphic objects into a
group so that you can use them like a single object. .

In fact the only "Objects" you can select and combine are "Drawing
Objects". Not graphic (picture) objects, Math objects, Calc tables,
Frames, or any other inserted objects.

Just a short query, are you really sure you need the added complexity of
a master document plus chapter documents?

I started out on this basis for a book because it seemed a nice and
logical thing to do. But then found that it was not necessary.

LO Writer can handle easily a technical document with some 15 chapters,
70 diagrams, Table of Contents with 3 or 4 levels, alphabetical index
etc with no difficulty.

Of course your requirements may well be different.

Hi Larry and all:

At first you have to copy the headers of your table at you side of you
table for example or at the end if it isn't big.

Then you have to add the filter that you need and put bellow of the
header that you want to filter.

Then run the wizard : Advanced Filter (Before select the table that you
want to filter) and in options you can select where to put the datas
filtereds.

Example:

Table

Province Sells Costs Profits
Alajuela 10 2 8
Puntarenas 20 1 19
Limón 20 4 16
Heredia 10 7 3
San José 20 5 15
Alajuela 10 8 2
Heredia 40 9 31
Puntarenas 50 12 38

Advanced Filter:(Read Filter Criteria From)

Province Sells Costs Profits
> 20 

Results of Advance data Filtereds: 

Province Sells Costs Profits
Heredia 40 9 31
Puntarenas 50 12 38

In this case, we filtered the column Sells to show only Province that
have sells higher than 20

I seemed to have got into a twist with the installation of ODBC and
multiple odbcinst.ini and odbc.ini files in my system.

The possible use of Kexi as a possible simple database system has also been

Assuming you are working with styles and that you defined your heading 
as starting on a new page, you probably want the same style-sheet for 
the sub-documents and the master.


That is hard to achieve in LO out off the box. But you may want to use 
Template Changer for that, extension: 
http://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=103039


Having exactly the same templates for the master and the sub-documents 
makes life much easier ;-)

Hello (world - 1st post. Many more to come I feel:)

I'm formatting a master document.

My chapter headings are like this:
"CHAPTER 1
Blah Blah Blah

textbody_textbody_etc_etc"

When I update the master doc LO inserts a page break between the 2 headings
on separate lines, so:
"CHAPTER 1"
.page break
"Blah Blah Blah

textbody_textbody_etc_etc"

If I manually delete the page break, when I update the master doc it gets
re-inserted.

So, dear community - how do I fix this please?

Definition of styles on the master have precedence over styles of the 
same name defined on sub-documents. Check the definition of your heading 
style on the master → Text flow tab to see if there is any automated 
page break set there. If that do not solve the problem, please try to 
create a minimum example (the master and one sub-document with just a 
bit of dummy text) and upload it anywhere so we can see what's going on.

Many thanks for the prompt response...

I guess part of the problem is that I do want to have an automatic page
break before each chapter, so yes, page break is on in the text flow tab in
the master document.

As a quick workaround I can just insert whitespace, so the chapter title is
on one line but appears to be below it on the page - it looks wrong though
(like the hack it is:).

that means under the "select_op" column I should put a comparison
operator such as > or >= or <=.  Is that right?  But where can I put
the logical operators, AND or OR, that are available with the

Thus, I do not understand your problem ;)

On your first message it seemed that you had an unwanted page break, but 
on the second you said that there must be a page break but somehow that 
page break is "wrong" on the master and that you are "fixing" it by 
inserting some space... on the subdocuments or in the master?


So, can you please provide a sample file that shows the problem? AFAIK, 
this list do not accept attachments so you need to upload it somewhere 
else.

[libreoffice-users] Writer Objects?

Can someone tell me what Writer defines as "Objects"? The term seems to
be loosely and often inaccurately used in menus and the "Help" facility.

For example, drawing items appear to be defined a "Objects", but then so
do frames.

According to the "Help" facility:
"Objects;Definition
An object is a screen element containing data. It can refer to
application data, such as text or graphics.
Objects are independent and do not influence each other. Any object
containing data can be assigned certain commands. For example, a graphic
object has commands for image editing 8<-- snip -->8 ."

A totally inaccurate and contradictory "garbled" statement in itself.

In the "Help" facility, the "Selecting;Objects" section also makes
totally false, inaccurate and meaningless claims about selecting and
grouping *ALL* those things claimed to be "Objects".

AFAICT the only genuine Writer "Objects" are "Drawing Objects". Does
anyone know of any other genuine Writer "Objects"?
